Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to support all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition in the labour market.

The Canada Summer Jobs program objectives align with the redesigned Youth Employment and Skills Strategy and are as follows:

  • Provide quality work experiences for youth between the ages of 15 to 30
  • Respond to national and local priorities to improve access to the labour market for youth who face unique barriers
  • Provide opportunities for youth to develop and improve their skills


Duration: 12 weeks (mid-July to mid-October 2021)

Hours: 35 hours per week, total of 280 hours

Rate: $18/hour

Location: Incumbent must reside in Vancouver Granville Constituency as funding is provided for this area.

This is a remote, work from home position with virtual supervision.

The Nationwide HR team supports the organization in all areas of HR operations and in developing and implementing strategies and programs that ensure we attract, develop and retain a high performing workforce to deliver on CCS’s mission and strategic plans. We have an opportunity for a student or recent graduate to join our team and be coached and mentored by strong subject matter experts in the field of Human Resources. This role is highly focused on pulling research and information that will help the team make data-driven, informed decisions that will impact the planning and execution of a wide variety of programs, processes and services available to our staff across the country.

The supervisor will ensure that the Youth receives one-on-one training before he/she undertakes the tasks. Ongoing check-ins and feedback will occur to ensure the Youth understands the project elements and remains on track to achieve their goals. The supervisor is the primary individual responsible for the assigned work and is accountable for the tasks to be completed. The Youth will also receive mentorship from an assigned individual(s) and/or member(s) of the team. A performance evaluation at completion of the project will be provided.


Supporting 3 HR Directors (and their teams) in their varied portfolios, this role will be assigned projects to support in the areas of Learning & Development, Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition and Management, and Employee Engagement.

This role will work closely with and report to two of our HR Business Partners.

Learning & Development

  • Support the review and RFP process for a new LMS system in advance of our November renewal date
  • Support coordination of language training program; run reports, track progress and make recommendations for upcoming cohorts of the program.

Talent Acquisition & Talent Management

  • In collaboration with the Talent Acquisition team, review job posting process and provide analysis of best practices (consider AODA and EDI) and recommendations for an updated approach in order to attract employees in a competitive environment.
  • Compile all current and historical job descriptions, creating one consistent filing approach accessible to all HR team members on shared drive.


  • In collaboration with the team, review of current practices, research and analysis of best practices and recommendations for the implementation of a new robust program.

Employee Wellness

  • Research and provide recommendations for employee wellbeing support; examine what other organizations are doing to support their teams (particularly at the moment), and make recommendations for some cost-effective things we could look to introduce
  • Review and develop plan to get the most out of our current programs – (i.e. further leverage Homewood Health resources benefits and resources)

Employee Engagement & Recognition

  • In collaboration with the team, review our current milestone’s recognition program; conduct research and provide analysis and recommendations for an enhanced program.
  • Support the team on a future forward culture shift project through research and implementation of various communications, marketing materials and program roll out.


  • Has an interest in gaining HR experience.
  • Be extremely organized, with an acute attention to detail
  • Enjoy research and have an inquisitive nature
  • Be able to synthesize information in a concise manner
  • Have strong technical skills (internet research, Microsoft programs, data management, excel reporting)
  • Be independent and able to work remotely
  • Possess HR best practices knowledge and experience through educational theory and some work experience
  • Because this role is remote, someone who can work independently and thrives in an environment where they will be supervised virtually.
  • Someone who possesses some skills and experience using computer programs (Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel). An intermediate level of Excel expertise is preferred.
