Summary: Miller Paving Limited is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil infrastructure construction across Canada. We are currently seeking a Scale Operator to join our team. Reporting to the Plant Foreperson, the Scale Operator will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to all customers. The Scale Operator will work closely with the Sales, Quality Control, Operations and Production to ensure customer orders are fulfilled accurately and in a timely manner.


  • Greet all incoming truck drivers at the scale house and ensure all trucks are properly and accurately weighed on the scale both entering and leaving the facility
  • Operate the weigh scales and scale software
  • Complete daily scale house and inventory reports
  • Generate scale tickets for loaded trucks in accordance with established policy and ensure scale ticket information is correct
  • Set up new trucks in computer with proper gross weight and owner/operator information
  • Maintain radio communication with loader operators regarding material piles, location and “time in yard”, liaising with Plant and Loader Operator(s) when necessary regarding any yard, inventory or customer requirements
  • Communicate with the Foreperson throughout the day to facilitate their changing needs in products required, as well as any changes in jobs and /or schedules
  • Respond to and deal with customers on the phone and in the yard in a courteous manner
  • Track material quantities
  • Adhere to Miller’s Safety Program to maintain a safe work environment throughout the quarry and adhere to the safety and record keeping requirements, ensure safety requirements are followed (PPE) and violations are reported
  • Notify customers coming into the yard of safety hazards or yard policies where applicable


  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written)
  • Basic computer knowledge with ability to learn and use weight scale software; familiarity with weigh scale software will be considered an asset
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, react to changing conditions and function well under the pressure of deadlines
  • Excellent customer service, committed to making sure that all interaction is handled professionally
