IT Governance team is situated within IT Risk, Office of Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), a First Line of Defense control function that governs, enables, assesses and oversees the management of IT Risk in accordance with regulatory expectations, evolving business practice and the changing technology landscape. IT Risk establish governance programs to address and remediate systemic IT risk issues, develop and maintain the IT Governance Framework and key interactions with Canadian Regulatory (OSFI) and actively lead governance forums like the IT Governance Council.

The primary focus for the Sr. Manager, IT Governance is to support Director, IT Governance, Standards, and Controls in remediating regulatory findings and supporting the governance function under OCTO. The role will collaborate with other technology teams and assist in implement remediation to help ensure meet the time-bound regulatory.


  • Lead in regulatory cloud computing governance remediation work:
  • Review current cloud governance oversight processes and standards. Collaborate with the Cloud Strategy team to stay informed of the development of the cloud strategy.
  • Review and prepare for update of IT Governance Framework to incorporate all changes to cloud strategy, and relevant councils, processes, as a result of other issue remediation.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and Technology Vendor Management teams to ensure the alignment of all new process changes.
  • Support Director in performing governance and risk oversight activities across technology to ensure audit and regulatory compliance, and timely reporting to senior management on the risks identified in multiple domains defined in technology governance framework
  • Helps to drive a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Supports an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Possess advanced communication (verbal/written/presentation) skills in English.


  • A minimum of 7+ years experience working on technology risk management and governance.
  • Good knowledge of cloud technology, data protection, risks, controls and standards.
  • Strong communication (presentation skills, verbal and written). The ability to communicate confidently and clearly on conference calls, in meetings, via email, etc. at all levels of the organization.
  • Must also be proactive and creative, with strong, proven ability to plan and manage competing priorities, as well as ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or in a related field.
  • Certifications (CISSP, CISM, CRISC) are nice to have.
  • Working knowledge of multiple global banking businesses including related systems and procedures.
