With the Canadian head office in Nisku, the company supports routine maintenance, turnarounds, and industrial capital projects by providing services including scaffolding and work access, insulation, fireproofing, and asbestos abatement, for general maintenance, construction, turnarounds, and shutdowns to western Canadian producers.

The Shared Services Senior Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing employee compensation, carrying out all payroll related procedures with speed and accuracy. This position reports directly to the Global Payroll Manager (U.S.) and indirectly to the Director of Finance (CAN). The position will work collaboratively with Operations and Human Resources to support the development of system improvements, and provide courteous and friendly customer service to employees.

  • Minimum 5 years’ Payroll Administration experience.
  • Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) or working towards.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks independently.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership in teamwork and complex assignments.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills via phone and email.
  • Professional and concise communication in written and oral form.
  • Ability to interface effectively with various levels of management and parts of operations.
  • Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan when necessary.
  • Shows integrity and discretion when dealing with confidential financial information.
  • Maintains the highest professional ethics and standards.
  • Knowledge of and experience in an ERP system is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel (testing required).

  • Manage the full cycle payroll processing for unionized and non-unionized employees
  • Ensure all employee requests and inquiries are responded to in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Review and approve weekly garnishments.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and regulation.
  • Assist Controller in implementation of new payroll software.
  • Maintain current payroll processing standard operating procedures.
  • Review payroll processes on a regular basis to ensure efficient and best practices are being used.
  • Manage compensation and new hire packages using payroll software.
  • Collect and verify timekeeping information for all employees.
  • Calculate pay according to hours worked incorporating leaves and overtime.
  • Calculate bonuses and commissions when appropriate.
  • Manage and calculate taxes and deductions using payroll software.
  • Initiate periodical payments timely either by preparing and administering checks or making direct deposits.
  • Issues statements and invoices and maintain records.
  • Update paper and electronic payroll records by entering adjustments on pay rates, employee status changes etc.
  • Calculate unemployment and severance payments, issue ROE’s.
  • Deal with complaints and questions regarding payroll from employees and upper management.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in payroll.
  • Prepare and submit reports with payroll information to the supervisor.
  • Complete monthly union remittances for 12+ unions.
  • Complete monthly garnishment reconciliations.
  • Perform any other duties as required.
