Purpose of the Job

The Tester is responsible for the preparation and execution of approved test procedures on the Wayside/Trackside or Onboard subsystem in accordance with company policies (including EHS, railway safety, local regulation and professional standard). Test execution has to be conducted in accordance to subsystem specifications documents and project strategy while conforming with company policies (including EHS, railway safety, local regulation, customer and professional standards). He/She assists with the preparation and execution of the various T&C Test Procedures in support of the TTC YUS project. The TTC YUS project is a Brownfield environment where the various testing activities may take place during the day or during non-revenue hours (Nights and Weekends) as deemed necessary to achieve project milestones. For the role, it is mandatory to succesfully complete the Subway Rule Book training for Contractors provided by the Toronto Transit Commision.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, plans and executes test cases and scenarios for the subsystem, in support of the TTC YUS Railway Signalling Project under the direction of the T&C Manager
  • Executes all work in conformance with Alstom Transport policies, standards, applicable regulations and professional standards (including EHS)
  • Performs all specific testing activities according the approved testing procedures / documentation and project driven priorities.
  • Adheres to Testing schedules and Testing plans as agreed with internal and external customers
  • Performs activities with quality, customer expectations and efficiency in mind such as resporting on Test Results, record keeping of results, configuration control, etc.
  • Uses the correct tools and equipment to perform the test activities. Ensures the equipment and tools in their care are calibrated and easily tracked.
  • Uses and adheres to the use of PPE as defined by the Project EHS plan, Alstom rules, and customer Safety requirements;
  • Alerts the hierarchical superiors by any risk identified during the testing activities (Sub-System Leader, PrCOM, PM, RC TCM, …) if any EHS risk is identified.
  • Develops/Reviews T&C procedures for the subsystem against contractual requirements.
  • Performs responsibilities with minimal direction/supervision from the T&C Manager and/or Subsystem Leader.
  • May interact with Engineering and V&V Subsystem Leaders for optimising site test and investigation of testing issues.
  • May participate/support activities associated with the V&V test on platform / in factory as required by the project.
  • Able to interface directly with customer and represent/protect the company’s interest.
  • For the role, it is mandatory to succesfully complete the Subway Rule Book training for Contractors provided by the Toronto Transit Commision

Experience

  • 1+ years of experience with Wayside/Trackside or Onboard CBTC Design/Testing or equivalent
  • Sound judgement; strong analytical, investigative, problem solving and hands on troubleshooting skills
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of a multi-disciplined team
  • Excellent Technical Writing skills for preparation of Test Reports and communicating Test Results at Technical and Managerial Team levels
  • Experience with facing technical problems and evaluate/propose solutions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
  • Good understanding of Test Management and Configuration Control
  • Applies expertise to troubleshoot technical issues & supports investigation of issues with other subystems and peers.
  • Performs activities with quality, customer expectations and efficiency in mind such as Test Results reporting, record keeping of results, configuration control, etc.
  • Knowledge of current signalling and train control engineering principles and practices considered a strong asset
  • Conceptual understanding of various railway testing scenarios and hands on field testing considered a strong asset

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology (electrical/computer/railway)
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record considered an asset.
  • Candidates must have legal authorization to work in Canada.

  • Direct reporting: Project T&C Manager and SIG Field Office/T&C Manager Canada.
  • Indirect reporting: Project T&C Subsystem Leader and Project Manager.
