Job Summary

Develop, design and deliver training programs and accompanying training sustainment strategies, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and City policies, standards and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development, revision, and delivery of standards and training for areas of Recreation including Recreation Services, Programs, Administration, Facility Operations and Parks & Forestry Operations, Culture and Library.
  • Primary focus is to sustain and enhance existing aquatic training for staff and affiliates, conduct training needs assessments, evaluate, develop, and establish training solutions and programs.
  • Facilitate the development and review of aquatic standards regarding programming, training, safety inspections and audits, resources, and materials. Validate and implement new and revised standards and establish compliance protocols.
  • Assess, coordinate and conduct quarterly, seasonal and annual city-wide emergency procedures training for part-time and full-time Aquatic staff
  • Coordinate advanced aquatic leadership and supervisory training programs and therapeutic aquatic and fitness training programs
  • Development of online training modules
  • Coordinate aquatic facility safety Inspections and aquatic facility safety audits and follow up
Skills and Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in recreation, adult education/training and development or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Aquatic and Therapeutic program operations, general recreation programming
  • Experience in developing and coordinating training programs
  • Experience with standard operating procedure development and review based on research and best practice
  • Excellent customer service, communication (oral, written) and presentation/instruction skills.
  • Proficiency in various computer software applications: CLASS, Success Factors, Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Excel
  • Availability to work flexible work hours required, including evenings and weekends
  • Required certifications include: NL, NL Instructor, NL Examiner, LSS Standard First Aid/CPR C, First Aid Instructor and Aid Examiner, LSS Aquatic Supervisory Training (AST), LSS Aquatic Safety Inspector (ASI), LSS Aquatic Safety Inspector (ASI), HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Childhood Development
  • Certifications that would be an asset: LSS Swim Instructor Trainer, LSS Aquatic Safety Auditor, Adult Learning/Train the Trainer/MIT Certification, HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Childhood Development Trainer, HIGH FIVE Quest 1 and Quest 2
