The Systems Engineer is responsible for management and support of various infrastructure technologies on the distributed system platforms. This role will have a focus on virtualization technologies and the incumbent will design, build and maintain technical solutions based on business requirements and evaluation of information technology trends and practices.

The engineer will require a broad skill set with excellent problem solving and analytical skills in addition to a strong automation and programmatic, Infrastructure as Code, approach to systems management. Along with strong technical skills, other core competencies include being self-driven and ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

Job Description

  • Design, install, configure, test and maintain virtualization infrastructure

  • Install, configure and manage operating systems, application software and system management tools

  • Create and maintain systems configuration leveraging industry standard configuration management tools and processes

  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions utilizing best practices and standards that meet the strategic business goal

  • Develop scripts for programmatic solutions to complex systems tasks

  • Identify system resource bottlenecks and work with other teams to test and tune systems for optimal performance

  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

  • Create, maintain and enforce systems standards

  • Create and maintain procedural and technical documentation

  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level systems support

  • Provide rotational on-call support outside of regular business hours

  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

  • Identify and recommend emerging technologies as they relate to team objectives

  • Demonstrate strong organizational and priority setting skills coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Be a thought leader who is capable of initiating and driving change

Skills and Experience:

Must Have(s)

  • Postsecondary Education or relevant work experience in Computer Science or Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years comprehensive experience with virtualization (VMWare)

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in System Administration in a distributed Windows and Linux environmen

  • Experience with KVM \ Oracle Virtualization

  • Experience with Cisco UCS

  • Deep Windows Server operating system knowledge, and an understanding of Linux

  • Working knowledge of SAN technologies and configuration

  • Experience leveraging DevOps practices to automate IT service delivery

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent scripting skills (PowerCLI, Powershell, Perl, Python, Ruby)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Nice to Have(s):

  • Experience with VMware Site Recovery Manager

  • Experience with resource management applications (Turbonomic)

  • Experience with data protection products (Cohesity)

  • Experience with log analytics tools (Splunk)

  • Public cloud infrastructure experience, ideally AWS

  • Experience with configuration management systems (Ansible)

  • Experience with workflow automation (Servicenow)
