The Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Manager is located in Meaford at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre and typically reports directly to the CBO Site Manager. Their primary focus is to manage the vehicle and equipment maintenance mechanics team under the direction of the Site Manager and is responsible for all departmental functions and performance. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Achieve required contract performance standards, other assigned objectives, and financial targets. Provide reports, as required.
  • Effectively implement and maintain CBO Administrative, Quality, Environmental, and Health & Safety management systems. Fulfill the specified duties in the above systems.
  • Provide leadership to all departmental staff. Directly supervise performance of department supervisors. Manage performance of all staff to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, and CBO policies and procedures. Provide support through regular formal and informal feedback, coaching and disciplinary action.
  • Monitor performance and liaise with any required service subcontractors.
  • Liaise with CBO Site Management staff to develop plans and budgets, monitor performance and resolve problems.
  • Fulfill the duties of Maintenance Officer in accordance with DND policies and directives. Liaise with DND technical authorities and attend DND conferences and working groups, as required.
  • Be responsive to the contract Project Authority (and designates), with responsibility and authority to represent CBO and communicate with client staff and the Contract Management Team, as determined by the Site Manager.
  • Promote positive relationships, close interdepartmental cooperation and communication with CBO and client staff. Attend required meetings and be proactive with prevention and resolution of problems.
  • Act as Duty Manager on a rotational basis.
  • Perform other assigned tasks, as required.
  • Support and participate in related CBO corporate initiatives, as required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Degree or Diploma in:

  • High School Diploma

The following certifications/designations are considered an asset:

  • Business Administration/Management

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Personnel responsible for the managing of maintenance activities to have at least 4 years’ experience in managing a multi-trade maintenance facility and 10 years overall experience.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

  • DND V&EM policies and procedures is an additional asset.
  • Canada Labour Code Part II and Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Federal and provincial regulations regarding transportation licenses and safety.
  • Financial statements – read and comprehend
  • Managing / leading union and non-union staff
  • Business operations processes
  • Organization and time management
  • Must hold a minimum Ontario class G driver’s license and possess a clear driver’s abstract; and must be able to obtain and maintain a military 404 driving license
  • Must hold a Level II Security Clearance or be eligible to obtain one.

Proficient user of:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP system
