An overview of your future role at BBA

As the Vice-President, Canadian Prairies Operations, you'll oversee, manage and grow consulting operations across the Canadian Prairie region, i.e., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. You'll report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and ensure the seamless integration of engineering, field and consulting practices, while optimizing operational efficiency and advancing strategic initiatives to support the organization's growth. Your responsibilities will include business development and ensuring successful project delivery for clients. This role requires a seasoned leader with a solid background in engineering or consulting operations management, as well as expertise in strategic market development.


An overview of your mandates and responsibilities

Business development

  • Lead strategic business development initiatives to pursue high-value OPEX and CAPEX engineering projects, ensuring long-term growth and profitability for the region
  • Position the region for growth opportunities by generating RFP's and developing pursuit strategies
  • Implement a structure that maximizes cross-selling services across offices and departments to optimize client engagement.

Operations

  • Develop and execute the regional operations plan in line with the firm's goals, in collaboration with the COO and other executives
  • Identify and manage new business opportunities and strategic external partnerships
  • Develop and implement a risk management plan to mitigate operational risks and ensure business sustainability
  • Build and maintain strong governance relationships with clients, external consultants, regulatory authorities and industry partners
  • Oversee engineering activities across multiple locations, ensuring top-tier performance, quality and safety to enhance the firm's competitive edge
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor regional performance
  • Manage and monitor budgets, resources, health and safety, project delivery and go‑to‑market strategies to achieve operational objectives within performance targets
  • Manage operational efficiency of processes, applying best practices and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ensure all engineering, field and consulting activities comply with federal, provincial and local regulations and standards
  • Lead, mentor and develop high-performing directors and managers
  • Foster and promote BBA's culture and business model while serving as an ambassador
  • Lead talent acquisition, retention and professional development initiatives to build a robust and skilled workforce.
  • Represent the firm at industry events, conferences and public forums to enhance its reputation
  • Promote adopting advanced technologies and innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration or related field; a master's degree (MBA) is preferred
  • At least 15 years of experience in engineering or consulting operations, with at least 10 years experience in a senior leadership role
  • Proven experience managing engineering, field or consulting projects and operations across multiple locations in both OPEX and CAPEX project types
  • Solid understanding of the Canadian heavy industry market, especially in the energy and natural resource industry, if possible
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to develop and implement effective operational plans
  • Ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Strategic thinker and fast learner with strong business acumen
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams
  • Exceptional communication and people skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • High level of integrity, professionalism and ethical standards
