Employment Opportunity: Volunteer Services Support Staff (Permanent/Part-time)

Building a community of hope since 1987, we would like to invite you to join our journey. Siloam Mission is currently seeking for Permanent/Part-time, Volunteer Services Support Staff. This position is responsible for working alongside volunteers in order to build relationships and provide support. This support will help create positive volunteer experiences and enhance the care provided to volunteers on a more personal level. They will work in collaboration with the Volunteer Services team to develop and enhance volunteerism at Siloam Mission.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead tours for volunteer groups & individuals, donors and community members;
  • Attend to and report any volunteer incidents to the Manager of Volunteer Services and complete incident reports;
  • Advise other Volunteer Services members of challenges with volunteers;
  • Ensure policies, dress code and safety parameters are followed by all volunteers, enforce policies as needed;
  • Attend to and manage conflict by referring to VS policies; follow protocol for warnings ;(Check/write notes in Volgistics and email corresponding Volunteer Coordinator or Manager); if necessary create a volunteer plan (may include dismissals);
  • Provide guidance and direction to new individual volunteers when needed;
  • Be prepared to assist in hosting volunteer orientations;
  • Work alongside volunteers in the different available areas to create an atmosphere of care and appreciation for volunteers;
  • Advocate on behalf of volunteers and volunteerism at Siloam Mission;
  • When needed, host volunteer groups in Clothing Sorting, work alongside clothing program staff or other departments

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must have a heart for the disadvantaged community that we work with; relevant trainings such as NVCI, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, CPR and First Aid, Volunteer Management Level 1 – 2, CVA Certification are an asset;
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Volunteer Management or related field;
  • Ability to type 35 words per minute and have good knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and capacity to use the volunteer database Better Impact;
  • Superior interpersonal and written/oral communication skills;
  • Ability to speak in public and lead site tours;
  • Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team; outgoing attitude is a must;
  • Physically active, walk and stand for long periods of time;
  • Demonstrate accountability, take initiative and problem solve;
  • Ability to multi-task, function under stressful conditions, open office environment and ability to adapt.
  • Be engaged, positive, clear, take initiative and build rapport with the Volunteer Services Team

  • Hours of work: 30 hours per week. Hours will be flexible. Primarily evenings throughout the weekdays, and weekend morning/evenings. May also include weekday from time to time including statutory holidays, as scheduled by your supervisor. Number of hours per month is not guaranteed.
  • This position is subject to a criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check)
