The Opportunity This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including Chemistry, Electrolytes, Hematology, Blood Gases, Coagulation, Endocrinology, Cardiac Markers, Neurology, and Informatics. As a member of the Wafer Fab Engineering team, work as an individual contributor within a team. Focus on sustaining: ensuring day to day processes are running optimally, process control is maintained, process issues impacting quality, yield or supply are resolved effectively and efficiently. Work closely with operations and equipment technicians to address daily issues that arise impacting wafer throughput, quality and yield. Work with process owners to identify and implement process improvements, reduce process variability and improve process capability to improve product quality and achieve higher wafer yields while maintaining acceptable throughput and cycle time.
What You’ll Do
- Support continuous improvement as an engineering resource on cross functional project teams.
- Develop and deliver communications/status updates on process issues and investigations.
- Support design and execution of experiments and analyze/interpret data to drive to root cause.
- Create verification, validation and engineering file protocols and reports consistent with the Quality System.
- Independently execute assigned tasks.
- Collaborate cross functionally with individuals and teams from Operations, Equipment Technicians, Quality, Supply Chain, Planning, Chemistry, Project Management and NPI.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering with Chemical, Biochemical, Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering focus.
- 0 to 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills.
- Willingness to work in a cleanroom manufacturing environment wearing a cleanroom suit, safety goggles, no make-up as well as in an office environment.
- Ability to design experiments, analyze and interpret data, and document conclusions.
- Analytical skills, creativity and innovative approach to problem solving.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members and work independently.
- Very strong investigational skills, drive to understand and solve problems.
- Propensity for continuous learning and experimentation.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts and statistics.
- Effective at dealing with a variety of people and understanding/communicating their requirements.
- Self-directed, proactive and not easily discouraged.
- Excellent organizational, planning and scheduling skills.
- Good oral/written communication skills.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
- Experience working in an ISO and FDA regulated environment is an asset.
- Experience with LEAN Six Sigma manufacturing principles is an asset.
