About the role
The Brock Group is a leading provider of industrial specialty services to clients around the world, with headquarters in Houston, TX, and operating units in Canada and the United States. With the Canadian head office in Edmonton, the company supports routine maintenance, turnarounds, and industrial capital projects by providing services including scaffolding and work access, insulation, fireproofing, and asbestos abatement for general maintenance, construction, turnarounds, and shutdowns to western Canadian producers.
Location: Nisku, AB (with periodic travel to project sites)
Reports to: Manager, Human Resources
About the Role:
The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) plays a key role in advancing Brock Canada’s People & Culture strategy by supporting multiple unionized and non-unionized entities across Western Canada. This position partners closely with site and operational leaders to deliver proactive, practical HR solutions that strengthen workforce capability, culture, and compliance.
The HRBP acts as a trusted advisor, providing coaching and guidance to leaders on employee relations, performance management, onboarding, and engagement initiatives, while ensuring alignment with collective agreements, company policies, and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Partnership & Advisory:
- Partner with site and business leaders to provide guidance on people matters including performance, engagement, and employee development.
- Build relationships across assigned sites and entities to ensure consistent, equitable, and legally compliant HR practices.
- Use data and reporting tools within Ceridian Dayforce to support decision-making and identify trends in employee relations, turnover, and engagement.
Employee & Labour Relations:
- Advise and support leaders in managing unionized environments under multiple collective agreements.
- Support grievance handling, discipline, investigations, and conflict resolution with a focus on fairness and risk management.
- Participate in union discussions and interpret collective agreements to ensure consistency and compliance.
Talent Management & Onboarding:
- Partner with recruitment and site leaders to support onboarding and integration of key positions, including management, technical, and skilled trades roles.
- Collaborate with leaders to identify training and development needs, aligning initiatives to operational priorities.
- Support performance reviews, improvement plans, and leadership coaching.
Compliance & Policy:
- Ensure adherence to employment standards, human rights, health and safety legislation, and internal policies across all entities.
- Maintain accurate documentation, support audits, and recommend process improvements for HR efficiency and compliance.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of HR policies, programs, and tools to improve accessibility and alignment across regions.
Culture & Engagement:
- Champion initiatives that enhance workplace culture, employee recognition, and overall engagement.
- Collaborate on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to foster an inclusive and respectful workplace.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a unionized, multi-site industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of employment legislation across Western Canada (AB, BC, SK).
- Experience interpreting and applying collective agreements.
- Experience using Ceridian Dayforce for employee data management, reporting, and analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and influence leaders at all levels.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- CPHR designation (or working toward) considered an asset.
