As the responsible stewards of public funds, the Department of Finance partners to ensure value for money in the delivery of programs and services for Yukoners. The Department of Finance serves as the territory’s statistical body and develops the territorial budget, corresponding supplementary budgets, and Public Accounts for the territory. It is also responsible for negotiating, coordinating, and representing Yukon on inter-governmental financial matters with other jurisdictions. In its capacity as a central agency, the department works with all areas of government in the creation of their annual departmental budgets and in processing operational accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
The Tax Administration unit is responsible for the administration and enforcement of compliance under the Tobacco Tax Act, Fuel Oil Tax Act, and the Insurance Premium Tax Act.
The opportunity…
The Department of Finance is seeking an accomplished professional that will play a hands-on role in leading Yukon’s tax administration programs in compliance with legislation and policies; overseeing branch resources and operations; contributing to departmental planning and change initiatives; representing the Yukon in intergovernmental tax forums; and ensuring accurate and timely year-end accounting and reporting.
The Director of Tax Administration will have the opportunity to demonstrate their senior-level leadership and strategic planning experience by advancing the department’s mission to secure adequate financial resources and maintain Government of Yukon’s financial position to support quality public services.

- University degree in finance, commerce, public administration, business administration, law or related field.
- Considerable experience in administering tax programs, ideally in the field of commodities (e.g., fuel, tobacco, and insurance premium), or leading compliance units.
- Experience understanding and applying financial legislation, policies, and procedures, preferably in the public sector.
- Considerable recent leadership experience, including providing direction, managing performance, managing change, and developing and mentoring a team.
- Experience in client-facing roles prioritizing ethical judgement and professional integrity.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or advanced tax specialization, such as CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program, is considered an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
