About the role
Job Description As an NDE Inspector, you’ll lead the coordination and execution of non-destructive examinations, ensuring compliance with classification society standards while minimizing cost and schedule impacts. You’ll collaborate closely with Lloyd’s Register, QC, production teams, and subcontractors to define requirements, validate technical requests, and ensure proper access for inspections.
You’ll also work toward obtaining NDE certifications and support hands-on inspections as needed. This role is accountable for key deliverables within a 3–6 month horizon.

- Lead NDE Coordination: Manage and administer NDE requests while overseeing subcontractor activities on-site to ensure smooth execution and compliance with class standards.
- Hands-On Inspections: Perform non-destructive examinations to verify product integrity and support quality assurance efforts.
- Collaborative Feedback: Provide clear, actionable insights to production teams based on NDE results, helping drive continuous improvement.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a go-to expert for NDE processes, offering technical guidance and ensuring best practices are followed.
- Quality Control Support: Partner with production and QC teams to uphold high standards and resolve issues efficiently during manufacturing.
Qualifications
- Red Seal in Welding or Technical Diploma in a related field (asset).
- 5+ years of experience in NDE or shipbuilding (asset).
- NDE certifications in VT, MPI, LPI, or UT (preferred).
- ASNT Level II in Visual Inspection or equivalent (e.g., CWB L2, ISO 9712).
- Strong knowledge of welding practices and inspection techniques.
- Familiarity with shipbuilding/manufacturing environments.
- Proficient in MS Office and SharePoint; able to learn new technical software.
- Skilled in reading specifications and structural/outfit drawings.
- Effective communicator with strong technical writing and influencing skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to present technical info clearly.
Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
