About the role
The Financial Controller is responsible for the set-up and enhancement of all aspect of financial related processes, systems and initiatives for US operations; ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and provide strategic financial guidance to support the scaleup and overall success of business in US.
T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 35 stores across the country: 14 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 12 in Ontario, and 2 in Quebec. The Company’s continuous expansion is going to bring more new stores in the next couple of years.
Accounting Operation and Control
- Responsible for the set up and implementation of financial structures and processes.
- Responsible for the end-to-end financial accounting activities related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset and inventory management, general ledgers, LC, DP, accounts creation and petty cash, etc.
- Oversee general accounting and month-end close process including journal entry preparation, general ledger account reconciliation and analysis.
- Work closely with T&T Canada teams and LCL teams to develop polices, processes and controls to safeguard company assets, ensure accurate financial reporting, ensure the company complies with regulations, standards, and US Financial standards.
- Work closely with LCL/GWL treasury team on fund flow set up and movement.
- Function as a liaison with internal/external financial auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Statutory Compliance
- Responsible for US sales and use tax set up and review and oversee the filing process.
- Prepare financial and compliance related reports required by internal / external auditors, regulatory authorities, and business partners.
- Assist LCL/GWL tax team in the preparation of Annual submission of tax packages.
People Management
- Lead and provide guidance to the US Accounting team.
- Guide and cultivate individual and team development.
Participate in or lead ad-hoc projects, analyses, and assignments, as required.
- Possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Commerce, along with a professional accounting designation such as CPA.
- Have a minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in an accounting department, supervising at least 5 employees.
- Demonstrate strong business acumen, preferably in the retail industry, including the ability to analyze strategic requirements, create innovative solutions, and execute action plans.
- Exhibit a strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, and IRS taxation requirements.
- Possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with tactfulness in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Display strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and policy design skills.
- Demonstrate confidence in delivering presentations and facilitating discussions, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Be hands-on, detail-oriented, inquisitive, and demonstrate professional curiosity.
- Be flexible to work overtime when necessary.
- Have advanced Excel skills, including familiarity with macros and pivot tables for analyzing large volumes of data.
- Be fluent in written and spoken English.
- The ability to communicate in Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) is considered an asset.
- Be flexible and willing to travel within North America.
