JOB OPPORTUNITY The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territory located north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self- motivated and dynamic individual interested in joining the KRG to work in the capacity of: CIVIL SECURITY COOORDINATOR- FIRE SAFETY Under the supervision of the Civil Security Director the Civil Security Coordinator- Fire Safety oversees, assists and undertakes tasks related to the coordination and supervision of the activities of the Civil Security Department of the Kativik Regional Government. More specifically the Civil Security Coordinator- Fire Safety:
- Ensures the implementation and compliance of the regional Nunavik Fire Safety Cover Plan (NFSCP).
- Coordinates and supervises employees responsible for the implementation of the NFSCP.
- Assists the Northern Villages in matters concerning Fire Safety and prevention including the implementation of an Inspection and Prevention Framework for municipal buildings and infrastructures in Nunavik communities.
- Implements and supervises a continuous training program allowing volunteer firefighters of Nunavik to obtain accredited qualifications.
- Implements and supervises annual prevention programs regarding civil security and Fire Safety.
- Ensures continuous review and adjustment to the proficiency of Nunavik fire departments capabilities.
- Acts as a representative of the KRG in matters related to regional fire safety.
- Respecting the annual budget assigned, takes part in the preparation and administration of budgets, implement timetables, and ensure the monitoring of deadlines that relate to implementation of the NFSCP.
- Participates, as required in meetings that are held with Provincial or Federal government representatives, regional organizations and other partners.
- Responsible for annual NFSCP reporting to relevant authorities (e.g., KRG Council, Ministry of Public Safety).
- Coordinates and plans the Nunavik Annual Fire Chief Meeting (NAFCM).
- Reviews and validates timesheets and schedules prior to Director approval and payroll processing for employees under his responsibility.
- In collaboration with the Administrative Coordinator, reviews project invoices, and work within the KRG administrative processes recommending payment approval, purchase and acquisition of materials and services and/or following up with contractors as necessary.
- Collaboratively seeks opportunities for improvement, formulate best practices and implement changes in the workplace for better efficiency and quality while respecting the KRG’s process and procedures.
- Working with the Director, plans and anticipates training needs, and ensures appropriate planning and support is provided to staff.
- During emergencies, the Coordinator – Fire Safety and all regional resources must be fully dedicated and operational under the coordination of the Department Director Civil Security, in their role as Nunavik Emergency Civil Security Coordinator (NECSC).
- Perform any other related duties as required. The selected candidate must fulfil the following requirements:
- University degree in a related field (Management, Emergency Management, Human Resources Management), relevant work experience will also be considered;
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience;
- Minimum of three (3) years of management experience;
- Excellent planning, communication, analytical and organizational skills;
- Be available to travel frequently;
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite;
- Knowledge of Fire Fighting skills is considered an asset.
- Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, English and French; The KRG offers competitive salaries and benefits including up to eight weeks of vacation annually, a cost-of-living allowance, paid annual leave trips, group insurance as well as RRSP contributions. The place of work for this position is Kuujjuaq. Place of work: Kuujjuaq Salary: Min $98420 - Max $135,335 annually. Benefits: Cost-of-living differential: minimum $8 500 annually. Food allowance: minimum $4 398 annually. Annual leave trips: maximum of 3 per person annually; Simplified Pension Plan; Group insurance; Vacation: 30 days annually; Statutory holidays: 19 days including 10 during the Christmas period. The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) was established in 1978 under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement to provide public services to Nunavimmiut. Its core responsibilities are outlined in the Act respecting Northern Villages and the Kativik Regional Government (Kativik Act). Additional mandates have been assigned by the region’s municipalities and the Québec government.
