The Restaurant Server is responsible for the seamless meal service for guests from the initial greeting at the table, menu suggestions, order taking, food delivery and overall guest satisfaction throughout the meal. This position works closely and in sync with the restaurant management team, server and host associates and the Kitchen team.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Prepare the table settings prior to the meal service following the restaurant standards for cleanliness, placement of cutlery, glasses, napkins and the specified condiments on all tables.
- Well versed on all menu items, ingredients and any specials of the day/week.
- Greet guests as they are seated in a friendly and welcoming manner
- Bring water and menus to the table shortly after the guests are seated.
- Take beverage orders after an appropriate time from when the guests were seated
- Deliver beverage orders, answer any questions on the menu items, offer any daily specials and take the food orders
- Upsell wine with their meal.
- Deliver the food orders. If there are children dining, alert the kitchen so their food may be prepared sooner.
- If the kitchen is backed up with orders, advise the guests of the time when they can expect their food.
- Refill water glasses as need, ask for any additional beverage orders.
- Check in with your guests in a timely manner to confirm their satisfaction and happiness with their meal selection and deal with any food related issues promptly
- Involve the management team for any guest who is not happy so issues can be resolved while they are still dining.
- Collect plates and cutlery when guests are completely finished eating. Never assume and when in doubt, ask the guest.
- Once the tables are cleared, offer dessert selection from the menu., coffee, tea
- For special occasions (birthdays or anniversaries, etc) make sure a special dessert and the occasion is communicated to the kitchen staff upon the guest’s arrival and ready after the meal service.
- Once the dessert has been served and finished, ask if they would like anything further
- Drop the check and collect payment
- Assist your team members when your tables are served or not full by refilling water glasses, clearing plates, running food.
- Maintain order and cleanliness through the work area and restaurant during meal service.
- Assist with side work duties and opening and closing procedures as outlined by management.
- Adhere to Health & Safety policies and procedures, sanitation and Food Safe Handling procedures and guidelines.
- Be well versed on the resort’s services and facilities
- May perform other duties and functions as assigned based on business levels throughout the resort by the Food & Beverage Manage.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous work experience in a restaurant an asset
- Valid Smart Serve Certification
- Food Safe Handling Certification an asset
- Excellent guest relations and communication skills
- Possess strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
- Professional attitude and appearance at all times
- Knowledge of health and safety practices as directed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the resort’s health and safety standards
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works the majority of time indoor and outdoors during patio season (summer months)
- May carry hot or cold food plates/trays
- Must be able to bend, reach and lift at least 30lbs.
- Requires some heavy lifting, moving of furniture and equipment
- Must be able to walk and stand for an average of 8 hours per shift.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
