The division of Advancement is comprised of four departments:

• Advancement Services & Operations is the administrative and technology support unit for all Advancement activities
• Alumni Engagement provides programs, services, and engagement opportunities to over 375,000 York alumni worldwide
• Development and Campaigns leads efforts to promote and secure philanthropic support from alumni, donors, friends, corporations, and foundations and
• Advancement Communications & Marketing promotes and communicates alumni and donor messages, along with direct marketing services for donor and alumni engagement.

These departments work collaboratively to support the efforts of the central university, as well as the efforts of individual faculties at York, including Osgoode Hall Law School.

In support of this mission, the Director, Development, Osgoode Hall Law School, develops and implements revenue generating strategies and programs that identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward philanthropic gifts from alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of Osgoode Hall Law School.

The Director, Development reports to the Dean, Osgoode Hall Law School. The Director works collaboratively with the division of Advancement and will be a strategic member of the Advancement Program Leadership team which encompasses the Advancement leaders across campus. The role will be located in the faculty and will participate in day-to-day faculty activities. The Dean will direct the role on faculty fundraising priorities and participate in call activity. The AVP, Development and Campaigns will provide support and best practices on fundraising strategy, track prospect management and fundraising progress. The Director, working with the Dean, will develop annual plans and set fundraising targets which roll-up to the university's annual Advancement goals.

The role executes on revenue generating initiatives, external relations, engagement and stewardship related activities. This role individually raises philanthropic dollars through one-on-one engagement, collaboratively works with their development upline to acquire transformational gifts and is expected to raise $1M - $2M annually with incremental increases over time. The faculty has an average total fundraising rate of approximately $4M - $5M per year with an expectation to grow this revenue.

This role raises funds for the faculty's priority needs, including student support, capital, programming, innovation and research in alignment with Osgoode's Strategic Plan and the University Academic Plan (UAP).

Education:
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline
Note: Requires verification of degree(s)/credential(s).

Experience:
6 years' experience in a leading role managing a successful face-to-face fundraising portfolio with a focus on education, ideally within the field of law.
4 years of management experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
University fundraising experience an asset.

Knowledge:
Understanding of the needs and interests of major donors and alumni.
Understanding of all aspects of the gift cycle from identification through to stewardship.
General knowledge and understanding of applicable CRA and legislative requirements related to fundraising activities.
Knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets, and estates an asset.
Knowledge of post-secondary student services, student support programs, and student access/retention, particularly with respect to under-represented demographics.

Skills:
Effective writing skills for a university fundraising environment.
Attention to details, high standards for quality, ability to balance risk, university policies and donor intent.
Ability to make highly effective/persuasive formal and informal cases of support presentations to diverse groups, large and small.
Demonstrated ability to lead a fundraising program.
Effective communication skills and ability to communicate effectively in a concise creative, and persuasive manner. Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of individuals at many different levels.
Effective project management, prioritization, follow-up and time-management skills are required to manage multiple on-going activities simultaneously.
Competency with word-processing and spreadsheet applications, fundraising and prospect management databases and Internet skills.
Diplomacy and negotiation skills.
Effective analytical, research, interpretative and evaluation skills.
Ability to organize, motivate, and work constructively with staff, students, and volunteers.
Ability to provide project leadership to individuals with diverse interests and objectives.
Ability to meet the faculty's advancement goals.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to work with senior volunteers and senior organizational leadership.

Additional Notes:
Normal office environment. Regular travel for meetings, conferences, and events. Occasional travel outside of the GTA and Canada may be required for engagement of international donors and alumni.

• Compensation:

York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
