School Counselor
Main Responsibilities
- Coordinate the comprehensive counselling program within a school(s) focusing on preventative and responsive programs and services.
- Ensure programs and services are principally concerned with the personal, social, educational and career needs of all students, placing priority on the best interest of students.
- Work within an established framework for the delivery of specialized services to students, consistent with the Department of Education and Tri-County Regional Centre for Education policies.
- Collaborate in a team environment and demonstrate a strong commitment to the school improvement process in support of student learning.
- Report directly to the School Principal(s).
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
- Master’s degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, or equivalent
- Training in Restorative Approaches
- Training in Trauma Informed Practises
- Group Counselling Theory and Practice
- School Counselling Programs
- Professional Ethics
- Counselling Skills
- Career and Transition Counselling
- Experience teaching at an elementary / secondary level
- Experience as an elementary / secondary school counsellor
- Cultural responsivity in Equity and Inclusion within a counselling context
- Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism
- Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire
