Canadian Base Operators' Meaford's Fire team is growing! If you are a committed and collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you.

The Fire Chief position is located in Meaford at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre and typically reports directly to the Site Manager. Their primary focus is carrying out fire duties in accordance with the CFFM's Fire Prevention Program and Fire Marshal's Directives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all aspects of the SOW are completed in a timely manner.
  • Acts as technical advisor to the Project Authority in fire related matters.
  • Responds to Wildland fire emergencies.
  • Lead and direct fire personnel in emergency response activities.
  • Assume command of fire scenes and other emergencies, making strategic and tactical decisions to mitigate the incident efficiently.
  • Conduct routine inspections of fire apparatus, equipment, and fire station facilities to ensure operational readiness and safety compliance.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate firefighters to enhance team performance and professional development.
  • Ensure all equipment is tested annually in accordance with the applicable NFPA.
  • Ensure all NFPA standards are upheld within the department.
  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of incidents, training, equipment maintenance, and personnel activities.
  • Ensure Strict adherence to the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal's Fire Protection Program, Fire Marshal's Directives, departmental policies, procedures and any other governing documents applicable to the fire service.
  • Participate in shift scheduling and personnel management, and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a physical ability to work in arduous environments.
  • Maintain a grooming standard that allows for proper respirator protection device fit testing.
  • Assist Military Operation in keeping Base Emergency Plan up to date and training requirements met.
  • Provide after-hours response on a rotational basis
  • Perform other assigned tasks, as required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 10 years in the fire service
  • NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector 1
  • NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector 2/ Plans examiner (Considered an asset/willing to obtain)
  • NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator 1
  • Red Cross First Aid & CPR/AED level C
  • Red Cross BLS
  • NFPA 1001 level 1&2
  • NFPA 1072 or 472 Hazardous Materials Operations
  • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer level 2 (Willing to obtain level 3)
  • NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor level 1
  • NFPA 1002 Pump Operator
  • DZ Driver's licence
  • Ability to obtain Level 2 (secret) security clearance

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

  • Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Teams

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal direction

*Must be able to achieve and maintain a Government of Canada Security Clearance*
