Engineer-in-Training (EIT) - Mechanical

Number of positions: 2 Job Location: Surrey Trades Training Centre

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid

Annual salary: $ 72,500.00 - 91,600.00

What you'll do

This position is part of the Engineers-in-Training (EIT) Program. The two year training program will provide you with

valuable work experience that leads to a Professional Engineering Designation and a rewarding engineering career with BC

Hydro. You’ll develop as an engineer through different types of work including: design, field work, and project management.

You’ll accumulate skills, knowledge and professional relationships by completing four six-month rotations in engineering

departments across our company, before returning to your home department. Your rotations will include at least one field

rotation where you may work in a different region of the province. Right from the start, you will be working on real projects

as a valued member of the team.

You’ll receive technical training and professional development opportunities. The broad range of on-the-job experiences will

help you build competence for registration as a Professional Engineer with EGBC. With the program opening doors to

countless opportunities within BC Hydro, you will be taking the first step on a career path with limitless potential.

What you bring

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities
  • Must be eligible for registration as an EIT with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
  • Two (2) years or less work experience towards EGBC’s Professional Engineer requirement
  • Strong English communication skills including strengths in verbal and technical writing, analysis, presentation and

interpersonal communication

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and recognize when guidance is required

What else you should know

  • A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver's License: Class 5 in good standing.
  • Most roles are based in Burnaby at the Edmonds office. However, the role may involve a temporary move to a facility

outside of the Lower Mainland.

  • This position has a start date in June, 2026 with approximately 3 weeks of orientation at the Trades Training Centre in

Surrey.
