Position Information Although the position is designated to the Apheresis Program, the position will have responsibilities in the Transplant and Cellular Therapy as well as in the vascular access program as it relates to patients and donors undergoing apheresis procedures.

Rotation/Shifts Days, 8 hour shifts.

Basic Requirements

  • Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Minimum three (3) months general nursing experience;
  • Minimum of three (3) months experience in one or more of the following programs: vascular access, critical care, Transplant and Cellular Therapy;
  • Extensive experience with peripheral and central vascular access;
  • Theoretical knowledge of apheresis including collection of hematopoietic stem cells;
  • Theoretical knowledge of extra-corporeal photopheresis as a treatment modality for chronic graft versus host disease;
  • Demonstrates the ability to evaluate and implement a plan to meet the vascular access needs of patients/donors undergoing apheresis procedures;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of patient populations requiring therapeutic apheresis as a treatment modality;
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines;
  • Demonstrates flexibility to work in an environment of rapid change;
  • Identifies a commitment to personal continuing education activities;
  • Ability to work autonomously;
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills;
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Nursing;
  • Specialty certification with the Canadian Vascular Access Association or the American Vascular Access Association;
  • Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
