About the Oval High Performance Volleyball Program
OvalHP Volleyball offers a pathway of programs that supports athletes from early development through high performance. The Richmond Olympic Oval team collaborates with Volleyball Canada to deliver the Regional Excellence Programs (REP). For more than 14 years, the OvalHP REP program and our other programs have supported athletes on their journey to high performance, post-secondary education, and provincial and national team environments. As the home of the Canadian Women’s National Team, the Oval is unique in offering volleyball programming across the full athlete development continuum.
Job Summary
The volleyball program at the Richmond Olympic Oval delivers coaching and training for Oval High Performance (OvalHP) volleyball programs. The Sport Instructor, Volleyball leads and supports the OvalHP Volleyball Pathway programming by creating and delivering training curriculums and session plans for programs such as Atomic, Train & Play, positional clinics, and seasonal technical training camps.
Key Responsibilities:

- Design and deliver group training, camps, and private lessons, tailoring sessions to athlete needs.

- Support the development and delivery of curriculum, session plans, and training plans across the OvalHP Volleyball Pathway.

- Track athlete progress, complete assessments/session notes, and communicate timely feedback and program updates to athletes and parents/guardians.

- Collaborate with OvalHP staff and integrated support team members (as applicable) to deliver a safe, athlete-centred environment aligned with long-term athlete development.

- Follow OvalHP coaching guidelines, expectations, and Code of Conduct; manage athlete safety and risk, including incident reporting, emergency procedures, and return-to-play protocols.

- Set up, inspect, and maintain equipment and inventory; ensure training spaces are clean, safe, and ready for the next group.

- Support continuous improvement by participating in debriefs, sharing best practices, and helping gather participant feedback and evaluations.

- Represent OvalHP in the volleyball community by building relationships with local clubs and partners (e.g., Volleyball BC and Volleyball Canada).
Qualifications/Experience:

- Current valid First Aid and CPR-C/AED certificates
-
- Completion of CAC Safe Sport, Understanding the Rule of 2, Respect in Sport, Making Headway, Making Ethical Decision (evaluation)

- Volleyball Canada Foundations of Volleyball (required)
-
- NCCP Certified Development Coach (asset)

- A combination of playing and/or coaching experience at the club, provincial, post-secondary and/or professional-level within the sport of volleyball.

- Completion and maintenance of clear criminal record check.
Core Competencies:

- Demonstrate foundation of sport specific knowledge, along with strong intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.

- An understanding of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) stages, particularly Train-to-Train and Train-to-Compete contexts

- Ability to build and sustain positive, collaborative, and high performing relationships with athletes, staff, and stakeholders.

- Demonstrated self-awareness, adaptability, and commitment to ongoing improvement
Availability: 6-15 hours per week. Shifts vary but will include early mornings, evenings and weekends.
Compensation: Hourly rate ranges from $25.18 to $47.50, based on qualifications and experience. An additional 12% is provided in lieu of benefits.
