Position Title
Scientific Data Analyst, DDI
Position Summary
The Scientific Data Analyst, Applied Research provides expertise in helping Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) connect with businesses and entrepreneurs throughout Alberta to collaborate, innovate and find solutions to real-world problems.
This position will support cutting-edge research, product development, and applied industry projects by analyzing complex datasets from digital platforms, research systems, and enterprise data sources.
In addition to strong analytical skills, this role requires hands-on software development experience. The Data Analyst will be responsible for developing data pipelines, supporting AI-driven workflows and agent-based systems, preparing datasets for large language model (LLM) applications and retrieval-based analytics, and implementing back-end systems to support digital solutions and applied AI innovation.
This position will work closely with researchers, technical teams, and industry partners to turn raw data into actionable insights that drive real-world innovation and efficiency.
Position Responsibilities
Data Analysis
- Collect, clean, and process data from research systems, digital platforms, and enterprise data sources.
- Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA), trend detection, and KPI tracking.
- Apply statistical and time-series techniques to support insights, predictive modeling, and operational optimization.
- Apply machine learning models to detect trends in data and support predictive and analytical solutions.
Software Development

Build and maintain data pipelines using Python, SQL, and cloud-native tools for both real-time and batch processing.

Write modular, well-documented code to support automation of data collection, transformation, and processing from diverse data sources.

Develop APIs and backend services to connect data systems, analytics tools, and AI-enabled workflows.

Support development of data services and pipelines used in machine learning, agent-based systems, and retrieval-driven analytics.

Ensure software follows security, privacy, and institutional compliance standards
Required Qualifications

Three (3) year undergraduate degree, three years of university or equivalency.

Computer Programming Diploma or Computer Science, with additional certificates in Google Analytics, Deep Learning, Python and Azure
Preferred Qualifications
Four (4) year Degree in Computer Programming Diploma or Computer Science
Certificates in:

Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate (DP-100)

IBM Data Science Professional Certificate (via Coursera)

$62,965 - $73,660 annually
Benefits and Compensation Information
An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits .
