Engineering Team Lead - Regional Distribution Engineering

Annual salary: $ 131,100.00 - 165,800.00
What you'll do
Our division has an exciting opportunity for a Distribution Engineering Team Lead supporting the Lower Mainland region.
This technical leadership role is well suited for an individual with a strong interest in team building and in establishing and
strengthening relationships with stakeholders involved in the delivery and maintenance of distribution assets.
Reporting to the Distribution Engineering Division Manager, the Engineering Team Lead is responsible for leading a team of
professionals within the Distribution Engineering Division. The role is accountable for the delivery of technical engineering
services supporting customer, capital, and maintenance projects, as well as for addressing operational and technical issues
across the Lower Mainland region.
The Engineering Team Lead works collaboratively with internal and external partners, including other Engineering teams,
Distribution Design, Asset Planning, Interconnections, Project Delivery, and Operations groups, as well as External Service
Providers and municipal stakeholders, as required. Through effective people leadership, the Team Lead fosters a safe,
respectful, and inclusive workplace while supporting the successful delivery of work that meets safety, technical, regulatory,
and business requirements.
The Engineering Team Lead will successfully carry out the following duties:
- Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to team members by encouraging initiative, supporting professional growth,
managing performance, and fostering collaboration, engagement, and a respectful team culture.
- Lead by example in working safely and efficiently, promoting a strong safety first culture and ensuring compliance with BC
Hydro and industry safety standards, policies, and procedures.
- Provide technical leadership as a senior subject matter expert, offering professional engineering advice and direction on
complex engineering and project matters within and outside the department.
- Prepare, review, and approve technical reports, presentations, standards, specifications, guidelines, and other
engineering documentation to ensure quality, consistency, and professional rigor.
- Advocate for professional practice and ensure work complies with Engineers and Geoscientists BC Quality Management
Guidelines, supported by effective technical governance, review processes, and quality assurance standards.
- Plan, allocate, and coordinate internal and external resources to deliver work programs effectively, including workforce
planning, assignment of work, staff development, mentoring, knowledge transfer, and engagement of consulting services as
required.
- Establish, maintain, and continuously improve engineering methods, procedures, and technical standards, incorporating
new technologies, best practices, and lessons learned.
- Proactively identify technical and operational risks and lead or contribute to the development of practical, value based
solutions to complex engineering problems, balancing cost, benefit, and risk to BC Hydro.
- Support divisional and corporate initiatives by contributing to business unit objectives, performance measures, and the
overall technical and operational performance, effectiveness, and efficiency of the department.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal partners, external stakeholders, clients, and municipalities,
and represent the team through meetings, technical forums, public consultations, and presentations.
What you bring
- Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably Power Engineering) recognized by Canadian
Universities.
- 10+ years progressive and comprehensive engineering experience in the transmission and distribution utility business
particularly in the design, engineering and maintenance of distribution lines at or below 35kV, including design standards,
emergency response, technical report writing, and the ability to undertake technical design reviews.
- Registered in good standing, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and
Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC). The individual shall be proficient with EGBC quality management guidelines,
continuing education requirements and code of ethics.

- The successful candidate will be required to travel to remote locations for both emergency response and regular
distribution project work or technical support.

A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver's License: Class 5 In Good Standing.
