##Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking an Exercise Specialist II for a full-time 4-month non-recurring term opportunity with our Sport and Wellness department. Reporting to the Supervisor, Fitness Centre and Programs, you will design and deliver health and fitness assessments, and exercise programs, in addition to performing class instruction and facility monitoring.
Key responsibilities include:
- Executing comprehensive fitness and health assessments and counseling sessions;
- Organizing, developing and administering specialized testing contracts for special populations (including those that require medical clearance), sport organizations and corporate clients;
- Designing, instructing and monitoring individualized exercise programs with clients;
- Preparing and instructing a variety of group fitness classes;
- Acting as a liaison with the appropriate medical personnel when clients have medical concerns (i.e., physician, physiotherapist);
- Monitoring the fitness area and completing risk assessments, equipment cleaning, organizing, and minor repairs;
- Booking guest appointments and competing applicable paperwork and processes;
- Responding to inquiries, complaints and concerns;
- Responding to any security issues or emergency situations, administering First Aid, CPR, AED and O2 as appropriate; and
- Assisting with the setup of fitness classes equipment.
####Skills
You will have:
- Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work with a diverse group of clients;
- Problem solving skills;
- Organization and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently;
- Strong presentation skills;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, like word, publisher, and excel; and
- Knowledge of exercise program development for diversified populations, including those with medical related conditions, fitness testing and the delivery of workshops.
####Qualifications
- A minimum of an undergraduate degree in physical education, kinesiology or another health-related field.
- A minimum of 6 months of experience in a fitness area setting doing group or specialty class instruction.
- Certified in standard First Aid/CPR C, Automated External Defibrillation (AED), and Oxygen Administration.
- Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS).
- Certification in Group Fitness Leadership through the Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) or an equivalent certification, in Group Exercise, Resistance Training and Spin Instruction is considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
####Position Requirements
- The ability to work Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday and primarily evening and closing shifts.
- The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
