Position: Drafting Manager – Civil Municipal Grading & Servicing Location: Markham, Ontario Relocation: No Position Type: Direct Hire Start Date: ASAP
Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Drafting Manager – Civil Municipal Grading & Servicing to join our growing Civil Engineering team. This is a senior-level position responsible for independently designing and preparing civil engineering drawings for municipal grading, servicing, stormwater management, and land development projects. The successful candidate will manage drafting and design activities, mentor junior team members, coordinate with field crews, and work closely with senior engineering leadership to deliver high-quality civil engineering projects. This role requires extensive experience in Canadian municipal grading and servicing design with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities: Prepare detailed site grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control plans for residential, commercial, and industrial developments. Design municipal servicing systems, including sanitary sewers, storm sewers, watermains, and related underground infrastructure. Design and evaluate stormwater management facilities, Low Impact Development (LID) systems, and other civil infrastructure. Prepare engineering drawings for residential and industrial subdivision developments. Review topographic surveys and ensure engineering designs meet applicable municipal and regulatory standards. Conduct field visits and site inspections as required. Manage, mentor, and provide technical guidance to drafters, junior engineers, and other team members. Coordinate with in-house survey and field crews to support project execution. Prepare technical reports and project documentation. Ensure projects are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards.
Qualifications: Minimum 10 years of Canadian experience in municipal lot grading and servicing design. Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience using Autodesk Civil 3D. Strong knowledge of municipal servicing design principles, including stormwater, sanitary sewer, watermain, grading, and drainage design. Demonstrated ability to independently complete grading and servicing designs without supervision. Experience reviewing topographic surveys and preparing engineering plans. Strong technical writing and professional communication skills. Ability to conduct field inspections, including travel to project sites. Valid Ontario G Driver's License and reliable personal vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). Previous experience leading drafting teams and mentoring junior staff.
Not a Suitable Background: Applicants with experience limited to the following disciplines are not suitable for this position: Structural Engineering Architecture or BIM Design Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Telecommunications Natural Gas or Utility Design (non-civil)
