Job Description Role Purpose We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Capital Projects Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is critical in supporting our capital project initiatives by ensuring accurate tracking, reporting, and compliance with internal controls and IFRS standards. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a solid foundation in project accounting, and experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
About The Role
- Ensure capital project costs recorded are in compliance with internal policies and IFRS (e.g., IAS 16, IAS 23).
- Schedule and lead monthly touchpoints with capital project managers to monitor progress of project costs against budgets.
- Identify projects near completion and coordinate with project managers to ensure Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) forms are completed and tracked for reporting.
- Discuss project timelines and proactively identify potential delays or budget risks with project managers.
- Prepare and distribute monthly capital project reports for internal stakeholders and the Project Management Office (PMO).
- Oversee the projects module in Oracle, including project creation, maintenance, and closure.
- Create and manage work orders in Maximo, ensuring timely processing and alignment with project requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing relevant documentation and responding to project cost-related inquiries.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation or in progress is preferred
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in cost or project accounting, ideally within a project-based or capital-intensive industry (e.g., infrastructure logistics, construction)
- Familiarity with IFRS standards, particularly related to capital project accounting
- Strong understanding of project accounting principles and financial controls
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing capital projects in a similar role
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to ask critical questions and influence project teams
- Experience with ERP systems (Oracle Fusion, Sage, NetSuite, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in Excel, including financial modeling and data analysis
- High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate with non-finance stakeholders
- Fluent in English.
- Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
