ćećəwət leləm "Helping House" provides wholistic, culturally integrated health & wellness services for Indigenous clients and families. Our interdisciplinary teams include community health programming; primary care services; home care services; peer support, harm reduction, and crisis response; integrative therapy; wholistic wellness; and Indigenous Elders, Healers, and Knowledge Keepers.
Together, we strive to support Tsleil-Waututh Nation members and families through care that is trauma-informed, relationship-centered, and guided by the Nation’s teachings on balance and interconnectedness.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Health and Wellness Director, the Wholistic Wellness Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of the Wholistic Wellness program. The manager ensures that the Wholistic Wellness team produces high quality, culturally appropriate, and effective wellness services. These services include counselling; population-based wellness programming; substance use counselling; as well as support with health and social systems navigation; client advocacy; addressing the social determinants of health; and ensuring access to preventative and treatment services. The Wholistic Wellness Manager works closely with all relevant internal and external stakeholders and partners to support the continued growth of Wholistic Wellness Services in the community, thereby ensuring that the needs of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation community are met, and the wellbeing of the community is advanced.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Wholistic Wellness Manager is responsible for the following key functions:
Strategic Planning, Program Development & Projects:
- Guided by the vision, goals, and strategic plan of Tsleil-Waututh Nation, develops and implements wholistic wellness programming, as well as respective policies and procedures to support the effectiveness of this programming
- Manages projects and programs related to Wholistic Wellness Programming, supporting population-wide initiatives to augment client, family, and community wellbeing
- Strengthens partnerships and collaborative relations with other BC First Nations communities, as well as with all external stakeholders, including the regional health authorities, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and others
- Liaises with external agencies as needed to help support access to care, uphold best practice standards, and policy development
- Supports succession planning initiatives to ensure continuity of wholistic wellness programming and services
- Stays current and pursues continuous professional development by attending conferences, caucuses, events, and symposia on Indigenous health and wholistic wellness as requested by the Director
- Effectively addresses systemic barriers to ensure seamless care transitions, improve access to care services, and support continuity of care, engaging closely and collaboratively with all internal and external partners
- Contributes to community wellness programming, prevention initiatives, and outreach efforts that strengthen the community’s social determinants of health
Leadership – Wholistic Wellness Team:
- Provides staff mentorship, supervision, and leadership to ensure effective service delivery
- Understanding relationship and trust as the foundation of client and family-centered care, oversees the careful recruitment and strategic retention strategies to ensure that the wholistic wellness team continues to offer culturally safe, trauma-informed, and relational care to all clients
- Manages human resource staffing activities, issues, and concerns, including, but not limited to, performance management
- Ensures probationary and annual staff performance evaluations are completed
- Supports effective team collaboration and administrative workflow by way of coaching, supervision, and program oversight
- Ensures that TWN policy and procedures are adhered to at all times
- Engages the wholistic wellness team in ongoing learning opportunities to support continuing education and professional development
Wellness Counselling:
- Provides direct front-line support and counselling services to clients and families as needed, using a harm-reduction, person-centered approach
- Provides immediate support during crises for individuals and families navigating trauma, substance use, addictions or other mental health challenges
- Using a trauma-informed approach, promotes a culturally safe and therapeutic care environment in support of client self-advocacy and self-determination
- Supports an integrated and wholistic approach to care planning that addresses the spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental aspects of well-being.
- Liaises with Indigenous Elders, Healers, and Knowledge Keepers to foster connection, cultural engagement, and strength-based healing
- Assesses client’s informal support network, and bolsters integrity of supports as needed through advocacy, shared care planning, and integration of additional formal supports and resources
- Supports clients’ access to health services, helping them and their families navigate resources and overcome personal and systemic barriers to achieving health and wellness
- Fosters shared care planning and interdisciplinary collaboration by way of case conferencing, consultation, and effective communication across all teams within ćećəwət leləm "Helping House"
Data Stewardship, Reporting, and Financial Management:
- Demonstrated ability in maintaining strict confidentiality
- Protects TWN data sovereignty by ensuring the Nation’s principles of data ownership, control, access, and possession is honored and respected by all external stakeholders and formalized by way of TWN-directed information sharing agreements if and when required
- Proactively seeks community engagement and feedback to help guide program review and future planning
- Creates opportunities for community feedback to help ensure community-led programming and implement community-guided quality improvement initiatives
- Compiles program statistics and provides internal reporting of quality performance measures as requested by the Director
- Oversees the wholistic wellness budget, and manages all funding obligations as per the contribution agreements
Communication and Relationship Management:
- Facilitates team meetings to help coordinate wholistic wellness services, while supporting collaboration and team building, and encourages cooperative dialogue and discussion to ensure services meet the changing needs of the community
- Fosters a culture of safety and humility within the wholistic wellness team
- Ensures positive communication strategies are used with and among staff, and between staff and clients, families, and the community
- Oversees the production of brochures, newsletters, and other correspondence to ensure effective community engagement, communication, and health education
- Ensures that the wholistic wellness team leverages the expertise and resources of the healthcare networks available to them to ensure that clients and families receive the best care available, that is culturally safe and trauma-informed
- Builds external relationships with other support services on the North Shore to further augment community wellness and in response to changing community needs
- Performs other wholistic wellness programming duties as assigned by the Director
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong leadership, program management, and team-building skills in providing program oversight
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in quality improvement processes and change management approaches
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of people and circumstances
- Support the professional growth of team members by way of supervision, group facilitation, and coaching
- Self-directed with demonstrated organizational skills
- Works collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in providing client- and family-centered services
- Able to de-escalate tension in an emotionally charged, fast-paced environment

- Effectively deals with issues of personal safety with demonstrated understanding of crisis management, including the ability to deal with life-threatening situations including suicide prevention
- Proven ability to use tact and sound judgment when dealing with sensitive and complex issues
- Demonstrates diplomacy and effective negotiation skills, in building strong relationships with external partners, funding agencies, and government bodies
- Knowledge of cultural and spiritual practices related to Indigenous health and wellness
- Astute needs assessment and facilitation skills to support client advocacy, self-determination, and effective linking to appropriate internal and external resources and services
- Sound understanding of Indigenous cultural healing methods and a willingness to learn and grow with humility one’s cultural awareness and competency
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers as a Registered Social Worker (RSW) that is in good standing
- Master of Social Work preferred, but consideration will be given to Bachelor of Social Work from a recognized post-secondary institution, only if paired with a minimum of 5 to 7 years in leadership roles and over 10 years of experience as an RSW
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional RSW experience including case management; counselling; crisis intervention; and interdisciplinary team collaboration
- A minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant leadership experience including leading teams, project and program management, and financial budgeting and reporting
- Direct supervisory experience in progressive leadership roles, including a minimum of 3 years of experience managing a team of five or more members
- Valid BC Driver’s License – Class 5
- Reliable vehicle and current vehicle insurance
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Documentation of immunization and TB screening history
- Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a community-based health care setting
- Completion of Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility training (e.g. San’yas)
- Demonstrated knowledge of Coast Salish/Tsleil-Waututh culture
- Experience working within or alongside First Nations communities or Indigenous-led health organizations
