We are looking for a Mortgage Underwriter to join our growing Calgary office. Key Responsibilities Review, analyze, and underwrite residential mortgage applications from submission through approval. Assess borrower profiles, income documentation, credit history, assets, liabilities, and overall risk. Review mortgage files to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with lender and regulatory requirements. Apply lending policies, guidelines, and underwriting principles to make sound lending decisions. Identify potential risks and provide solutions to strengthen applications. Communicate effectively with mortgage professionals, lenders, and internal teams throughout the underwriting process. Prepare clear underwriting notes, conditions, and recommendations. Maintain accurate records and ensure timely file turnaround. Stay updated on mortgage guidelines, industry trends, and lending policies. Support a collaborative team environment focused on delivering an exceptional client experience.
Required Qualifications Minimum 2+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting, mortgage lending, or a related financial services role. Strong understanding of residential mortgage products, lending guidelines, and documentation requirements. Knowledge of Canadian mortgage regulations, compliance standards, and risk assessment practices. Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple files and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with mortgage origination systems and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
Preferred Experience Previous experience in underwriting Canadian residential mortgages. Experience working with A-lenders, alternative lenders, and private lending solutions. Familiarity with mortgage underwriting platforms and brokerage workflows. Experience reviewing complex income scenarios, self-employed borrowers, and non-traditional files. Mortgage industry certifications or related financial services education are considered an asset.
