About the role

JOB SUMMARY:
As a valued interdisciplinary team member the Support Services Aide, works under the direction of the Support Services Manager, performing general cleaning duties in the Park Place Home, including the cleaning of residents’ rooms and other areas as assigned. The Support Services Aide also assists with food services by performing daily food services activities related to the delivery and provision of meals to residents and as assigned, with washing of dishware and the receiving, distribution, storage and maintaining of stock and supplies. The Support Services Aide follows all relevant Park Place policies including infection prevention and control, WHMIS and quality improvement. Treats residents with dignity and demonstrates an attitude of caring. The Support Services Aide ensures a commitment to resident safety and to our “culture of safety” as per Park Place Strategic Imperatives.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs daily, routine cleaning including vacuums, dry mop and wet mops floors, dusts and cleans resident rooms.
  • Performs daily food services activities related to the delivery and provision of meals to residents.
  • Performs the day-to-day food services activities related to the dishware washing and cleaning of the kitchen and other dining areas in the Home including the food servery and dining rooms on each resident Neighbourhood.
  • Keeps work areas clean, neat and tidy.
  • Assists in receiving, distribution and storage of supply deliveries.
  • Assists in replenishing linen supplies and transporting carts.
  • Reports unsafe conditions and malfunctioning equipment.
  • Supports the equipment control system reporting all maintenance issues of equipment to the Support Services Manager.
  • Checks and restocks supplies as assigned. Reports to Manager when supplies are low.
  • Understand and follows Park Place Infection Prevention and Control policies, procedures, and Universal Precautions.
  • Identifies and reports risks to ensure the safety of residents, visitors and staff.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, visitors and staff by adhering to established safety policies, standards and procedures including emergency procedures (example, Fire Drills)
  • Provides assistance to the Janitor/Custodian for small general maintenance as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible to read, understand and comply with the Park Place and provincially mandated Occupational Health and Safety policies and safe work practices.

  • Involved in all aspects of the Health and Safety Program including:

    • Uses safe work procedures,
    • Promotes health and safety policy and awareness,
    • Makes safety suggestions.
    • Reads OHS minutes posted.
  • Responsible to take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of residents, visitors self, other workers.

  • Reports any near miss, injury, and accidents or equipment damage to manager immediately and completes required reports.

  • Corrects and/or reports unsafe conditions.

  • Sets a good example.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12

  • Facility cleaning and or kitchen experience an asset.

  • Food Safe certification an asset.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to organize work.

  • Ability to operate related equipment.

  • Ability to work in teams collaboratively and communicate with others in a respectful manner.

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Physical Demand Analysis:
MUST on a daily basis be able to perform the following physical activities:

  • Stand, lift, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, climb ladders, use stairwells, operate equipment, carry up to 9.0kg, push/pull object of 23kg.

  • Look over both shoulders, use both arms at full length, works with arms above the shoulders, have full use of both hands

  • Work in a warm environment

  • Walk 100 meters or longer distances on even surfaces

Health and Safety Risks – Environment

  • Physical: Strain on shoulder, neck and back, eye strain, cuts and scrapes, electrical shock Environmental: Draft, dust exposure, working alone situation, exposure to temperatures
  • Chemical: Chemical exposure
  • Biological: Exposure to communicable diseases, i.e. colds, influenza, GI
  • High Risk Element: Inhalation, slips/trip/falls and ergonomics related to building and equipment maintenance
