The Diversity Resource Team Civilian serves as police ambassadors embedded within the community. They will promote two-way engagement and planning to support improved police service designs to marginalized and visible minority communities. This position will work with communities to foster trust, build relationships, and improve access to services by helping to break down barriers and misconceptions. Primary duties include:

  • Build on existing partnerships (agencies, community associations, faith groups).
  • Plan, implement and monitor community engagement sessions on public safety.
  • Promote public safety and awareness through training, education and facilitation of workshops and participation in community events.
  • Serve as community liaison with District commanders to determine priorities and scheduling and implementation of activities.
  • Assist in developing and promoting appropriate communication tools in conjunction with the Diversity Resource Team, CPS Advisory Boards/Circle, Anti-Racism Action Committee, District Commanders and Community Resource Officers (CROs).
  • Create events, activities, and community engagement through organizing training sessions and meetings.
  • Develop Action Plans and monitor progress toward achieving program goals and milestones.
  • Provide oversight of project activities including work plans, activity schedules and communications and project reports to both internal and external clients.
  • Facilitate discussions between police and community member to increase police interaction within the community.
  • Create and present monthly and bi-annual statistical reporting to support the evaluations of the impact of the program.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2 year diploma in social science or a related field and 2 years directly related experience.
  • Lived experience as a member of an underrepresented community is required.
  • Experience working with law enforcement or public safety is an asset.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Position Type: 2 Temporary (up to 12 months)

Location: 5111 - 47 Street N.E.

Compensation: Pay Grade 10 $44.01 - 58.82 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
