Minimum Starting Salary: $95,579; starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience.

About The Barrett Centre For Technology Innovation At Humber The Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation is a new facility built to inspire innovation through collaboration and is part of Humber’s Centre of Innovation network. We bring together industry, students and faculty to solve real world challenges and promote science, technology, engineering, art and math outreach with industry and community partners. We work closely with all faculties across Humber to provide the resources they require to complete capstone, applied research projects, experiential Learning activities and support skills development. About The Role The Marketing and Communication Manager will lead all branding, marketing, content creation and communication efforts for the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation. This role is responsible for crafting and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that elevates the BCTI brand, supports its strategic priorities, and strengthens its reputation as a leader in innovation and applied research. The ideal candidate is a creative, strategic thinker and skilled storyteller and content creator who thrives in a fast-paced, technological environment and understands how to translate complex ideas into compelling narratives. This is a key leadership role that works collaboratively across departments, with internal and external stakeholders, and reports directly to the Director of the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation. In leading the BCTI Marketing and Communications strategies the incumbent has the freedom to independently plan and execute campaigns, including determining the campaign objectives, target audience, messaging strategy, and promotional channels. They have the autonomy to make decisions regarding campaign budget, creative direction, and timeline, ensuring that the campaign aligns with department goals and effectively reaches the intended audience. The incumbent has the authority to take immediate action to address potentially challenging public relations issues and protect the organization's reputation. They have the freedom to develop and implement a crisis communication strategy, including drafting official statements, coordinating media responses, and managing social media communication. The incumbent may need to make real-time decisions and collaborate with senior leadership to navigate the crisis effectively, demonstrating their autonomy and ability to act independently in high-pressure situations. In this leadership position the incumbent will be responsible for hiring and mentoring part time staff, as well as provide direction to employees from other departments who may also engage in promotional activities for the BCTI. In addition, but not limited to, the incumbent will;

  • Design and execute communication strategies that showcase the Centre’s applied research, capstone projects, STEAM ACADEMY, events and innovation programs across digital, print, and media platforms.
  • Develop compelling content and video recording that highlights faculty applied research, student innovation, project successes, and industry partnerships—translating technical achievements into accessible and inspiring narratives.
  • Serve as brand steward and voice of the BCTI, ensuring all communications reflect BCTI’s values, vision, and personality.
  • Develop and implement multi-channel marketing strategies that drive engagement, promote research outcomes, and attract partnerships, talent, and funding
  • Manage BCTI website, create content for social media, print, digital campaigns, press release, newsletters, social media, academic journals and video – ensuring messaging is audience-specific and aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Lead brand strategy and identity for the BCTI, ensuring consistency across all internal and external touchpoints.
  • Collaborate with faculty, students, industry, and other centers of Innovation to amplify impact stories and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead promotional efforts for BCTI events, symposiums, student show case, Industry forums, ensuring consistent messaging and visibility.
  • Create impact reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and partnership agreements.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on the performance of marketing campaigns and communications strategies
  • Use data-driven insights to continuously optimize marketing efforts and improve engagement outcomes.

Education

  • A degree in marketing, communications, public relation, or combination of equivalent experience

Experience/Skills

  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or brand management, preferably in an innovation, applied research, academic, or technology setting
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Proven experience leading successful brand strategies and integrated marketing campaigns
  • Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editing skills
  • Digital marketing expertise, including SEO, analytics, social media, and email marketing
  • Comfortable working with faculty, students, industry and media professionals
  • Experienced in managing digital communication tools, analytics platforms, and CRM systems
  • Adept in content creation and visual communication (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, video production tools)
  • Proficient in using photoshop, presentation creation, photography, Digital Marketing, social media and content creation management
  • Thrive in dynamic, interdisciplinary settings where creativity meets purpose
  • Work efficiently within the assigned budget
  • Exceptional time management, project management and organizational skills
