Under the direction of the Supervisor Finance and Budgeting, the Business Consultant provides financial, analytical, and operational support to the Finance department and stakeholders across the LDCSB. The incumbent is responsible for the extraction, analysis, and interpretation of financial and statistical data for internal and external reporting, including to the Ministry of Education. This role supports budget development, year-end reporting, and financial system administration, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies. The Business Consultant also manages tangible capital asset reporting and provides training and consultation to system users. The position requires strong analytical, communication, and time management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and contribute to the department’s efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills required:
- Post-secondary degree in an accounting, finance or business-related field
- Holding or working towards a CPA (CA, CMA or CGA) designation would be considered an asset
- Minimum 3-5 years related experience in financial analysis, reporting or consulting required
- Experience in a school board or public-sector environment is preferred
- Expert knowledge of accounting concepts for Ontario school boards and comprehensive understanding of educational funding requirement would be an asset
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in an organized manner and collaborate in a team environment
- Strong understanding and demonstration of application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards
- Advanced understanding of, and skills, using financial information systems and Microsoft Office (Especially Excel). Experience working with Sparkrock is considered an asset.
- Demonstrate professional ethics and sensitivity to the confidential nature of the position
- Demonstrated initiative and commitment to continuous improvement
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
