About the role

About the role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part-time Registered Nurse (Donor Centre Nurse) to join our dynamic Collections team in our BC-Vancouver-Oak St, BC-Vancouver-Downtown donor centre.   The Collections team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services collecting donor blood and blood components in a safe manner to provide patients with lifesaving products every day. In this role, you will assist in the collection of blood and blood products ensuring adherence to all safety protocols, and all required documentation is carried out. You will play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.Formula for success

Deliver an exceptional donor experience by using your strong communication and client service skills to conduct registration and confidential screening, ensuring eligibility and fostering trust. Educate and empower donors by providing clear information, instructions, and guidance on blood donations and other ways to support Canada’s Lifeline. Drawing on your knowledge and experience you will provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed. You will apply your experience and training in phlebotomy to perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction. Ensure accuracy and compliance by maintaining complete and precise records across multiple systems, including screening, collection, product storage, sample preparation, and packaging for shipment. Drive continuous improvement by sharing your knowledge and supporting best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience. At mobile events within our communities, you will assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.  Desired education and skills

Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required. 2 years of experience working as a nurse is considered an asset as is a certification in First Aid and CPR. Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset. Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.  Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions. Shifts/hours will vary. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs; length of shifts varies according to the event which takes place at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centers. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. Working days: Wednesday - Friday, alternating Saturdays. Working hours: float line, potential working hours are: 0745-1545, 1045-1845, 1145-1945, 0945-1745. Working locations: 4750 Oak St, Vancouver & 888 Dunsmuir St, Vancouver & various Vancouver Mobiles locations in the Lower Mainland (muster point for staff bus is 4750 Oak St, Vancouver). Rest days: Monday and Tuesday or Saturday and Sunday. Travel will be required for mobile events in our communities, and transportation will be provided by Canadian Blood Services. Physical requirements for the role include the ability to lift supplies and equipment in excess of 10 kg (22 lbs.).
