Medicine Hat College is seeking a skilled and collaborative full-time regular Manager of Payroll, Benefits & HRIS to join our Human Resources team.

####A little about the role:

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, this position will manage the College’s payroll and benefits functions and lead the administration of the HRIS (Unit 4 Business World). The Manager ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across payroll, benefits, and HR systems while supporting both operational and strategic HR initiatives. Key areas of responsibilities include managing payroll and benefits administration for all MHC employees, overseeing ability management, workplace accommodations, and return-to-work coordination, leading the implementation, optimization, continuous improvement of payroll, benefits and HR processes, administering and enhancing the payroll and human resources modules within Unit 4 to support organizational needs, and interpreting and applying collective agreements and legislative requirements.

Salary: $95,611 gross per annum

As a successful applicant you'll have:

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business with a focus on human resources, payroll, or related field OR an equivalent combination of related post-secondary education, approved training and relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Designation with the National Payroll Institute is considered an asset.

Experience

  • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in HR, payroll, and benefits, preferably in a unionized environment, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with system implementation, administration and maintenance; Unit 4 Business World experience is an asset.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Strong analytical abilities and proficiency with business software, with the capacity to translate operational needs into system requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll, benefits and pension administration.
  • Understanding of ability management, including leave administration, accommodations, and return-to-work processes.
  • Advanced understanding of the legislation and accounting requirements related to payroll and benefits.
  • Familiarity of HR management practices, such as collective bargaining, compensation, and performance management.
  • Ability to analyze processes, deliver training, and support end users.
  • Experience collaborating with consultants and cross-functional teams on ERP changes.
  • High attention to detail.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence in advising leaders and working collaboratively across the College.
