About the role

We are looking for a seasoned Desktop Engineer to play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the stability, security, and performance of our endpoint infrastructure. This position demands deep expertise in both physical and virtual desktop environments, with a strong emphasis on our Azure Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (AVDI). The ideal candidate will bring advanced proficiency in Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), and modern desktop management practices, along with a solid foundation in automation and scripting.

What You Will Do

  • Design, deploy, and manage Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments including host pools, session hosts, and application groups.
  • Optimize AVD performance through monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
  • Integrate AVD with Microsoft Entra ID for identity and access management including Conditional Access and MFA.
  • Implement FSLogix for user profile management and troubleshoot profile-related issues.
  • Automate provisioning and maintenance tasks using PowerShell scripts.
  • Deploy and manage AVD infrastructure using Terraform and maintain secure state management
  • Configure and manage device compliance, app deployment, and endpoint security using Microsoft Intune, MECM and Jamf (Macs)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite of applications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Architects, Analysts, Project Managers, Network, Cloud DevOps, and Security teams to deliver secure and scalable solutions.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for incidents, escalations, and collaborate with Service Desk and End User Operations to resolve complex issues.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of engineering processes, compliance procedures, and system configurations.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues affecting Azure Virtual Desktop environments.
  • Collaborate with network and security teams to analyze and resolve firewall rule conflicts.
  • Ensure proper network segmentation and access controls for session hosts and user endpoints.

What You Will Bring

  • 3–5+ years of experience in desktop engineering or end-user services roles.
  • Expertise in Azure Virtual Desktop architecture, deployment, and optimization.
  • Proficiency in FSLogix profile containerization and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of Azure networking and security principles relevant to AVD.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune for endpoint management and compliance.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID for identity and access management.
  • Skilled in PowerShell scripting for automation and reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code in Azure environments.
  • Strong understanding of Azure networking components including VNets, NSGs, and VPN gateways.
  • Experience troubleshooting network connectivity and firewall rule configurations.
  • Ability to analyze traffic flows and implement secure network access for virtual desktop infrastructure.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty (preferred) and/or Endpoint Administrator Associate (preferred).
  • HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate (preferred).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments and enterprise-scale deployments.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools (Scrum, Kanban, Jira).
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada website. The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life.

The base salary for this position is between $52,800 - $97,700 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
