The opportunity:

Audio-Visual Technician 1 is a junior position supporting audio-visual technology for the University of Manitoba Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses and is responsible for technical and clerical support in classrooms, theatres, and meeting spaces. Tasks include light maintenance, room preparation, basic equipment assistance, and routine equipment checks. The role is a continuing casual position (0-35 hours) supporting fall and winter terms with no hours allocated over the summer term or breaks.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • High school completion with job related options.
  • Some technical or electronic training is desirable.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with directly related experience.
  • Knowledge of the care and operation of audio-visual equipment would be an asset.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated skill on the equipment listed above.
  • Demonstrated skill in detailing and organizing work assignments is required.
  • Demonstrated skill in "on the spot" judgement making (i.e. able to weigh the needs of the colleague against time constraints, department practices) is required.
  • Must know to refer when a decision involves policy.
  • Good verbal and writing skills are preferred.
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows and MAC operating systems, Internet browsers preferred.
  • Ability to follow instruction and pay close attention to detail is required.
  • Must be able to maintain concentration while completing repetitive tasks with little margin for error.
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff, students and the public, while maintaining good relations.
  • Must be physically capable of performing duties as required by the position. Such physical capabilities may include: lifting heavy objects, running when required, moving in constrained spaces, good eyesight and hearing.
  • Must be conscientious, resourceful, courteous and punctual.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Ability to cover operational hours:
  • Fort Gary: Monday to Thursday (7:30am - 10:30pm) & Friday (7:30am - 6:00pm)
  • Bannatyne: Monday to Friday (7:30am-5:30pm)
