HOURLY RATE:$44.4263 to $46.2775 per hour, Pay Grade 10 – Schedule “A” Inside Employees

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Grade 12 Diploma or GED
  • Diploma in Applied Planning, Construction Technology or Engineering or Architecture Technician, would be considered an asset

LICENSES / CERTIFICATES

  • Valid Class Five (5) C. Driver’s License
  • Building Inspector Level 1 Certification, Level 2 would be an asset
  • Plan Checker Training and Education (Land Use Planning)
  • Certification/membership or eligible for certification/membership in the Building Officials of British Columbia (BOABC), Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and Planning Institute of BC (PIBC), the Canadian Association of Planning Technicians (CACPT), the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC (ASTTBC), or Engineering and Geoscientists BC is preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years municipal building inspection or building permitting experience.
    AND/OR
  • Three (3) years experience permitting current planning applications (rezoning, development permits, zoning/development variances)
  • Strongly preferred experience within a BC local government setting
  • A minimum of six (6) months experience in addition to applicable education and certification may be considered

SPECIFIC SKILLS

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and methods applicable to land use planning and building/development permitting
  • Experience in researching, developing, and implementing planning projects, including the ability to generate recommendations
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, bylaws, and legislation applicable to land use planning in BC and the City of Cranbrook
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and, where applicable, apply department objectives, plans, and policies to daily work
  • Confidence interpreting municipal bylaws and policies, such as Zoning Bylaw, Building Bylaw and Official Community Plan
  • Some knowledge of theLocal Government ActandCommunity Charter
  • Demonstrate excellent report writing skills
  • Effective human relations and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Demonstrated computers skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel). Experience with mapping software would be considered an asset
  • Able to plan, schedule and coordinate workload
  • Knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal standards
  • Ensure courtesy and tact is exercised in the exchange of routine information with other City employees, stakeholders, contractors and the public
  • Good working knowledge of WorkSafe BC Regulations and City Health and Safety Policy and procedures

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of current BC Building Codes
  • Knowledge of GIS applications related to title and zoning searches
  • Working knowledge of municipal bylaws
  • Police Information Check
