Job summary
This position will be responsible for providing paralegal support for the lawyers in the Vancouver office. Responsibilities will cover all aspects of commercial lending transactions, including loans for real estate transactions and development, and will include the preparation and review of documents for such matters. Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial lending in addition to a basic understanding of commercial real estate transactional procedures. This candidate will be self-motivated and highly organized, have superior computer, proofreading and time management skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment. This role supports a busy commercial lending practice with a high volume of files requiring the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and client service.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and assisting with documentation for various commercial lending transactions such as mortgages, general security agreements, officer’s certificates, corporate resolutions, trust letters, directions to pay and related correspondence
- Reviewing and organizing commercial lending documents including commercial financings, refinancings, mortgages and commitment letters
- Managing commercial lending files from opening to closing, ensuing all documentation and processes are completed accurately and in a timely manner
- Preparing and filing registrations with the Land Title Office and Personal Property Registry and managing related filings and discharges
- Conducting, reviewing and summarizing standard due diligence searches
- Performing complex document editing, proofreading and formatting for correspondence and documents
- Maintaining and organizing both electronic and physical files, ensuring accuracy, accessibility and compliance with firm procedures
- Working collaboratively with lawyers, paralegals and administrative staff in a professional, team-oriented environment.
- Managing multiple deadlines and priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail in a fast-paced practice
Qualifications include:
- Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program and/or paralegal program (equivalencies will be considered)
- Five or more years of commercial lending experience, working with real estate transactions in a law firm setting would be an asset
- Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment
- Must have proofreading, writing, spelling and grammar skills
- A client focused approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external clients
- Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and to thrive in a fast-paced environment working with lawyers, paralegal and support staff in a professional, team-based setting
