TEMPORARY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT 36 hours/week at Capilano Elementary School
From: September 15 ,2025 – July 3, 2026 (or return of incumbent)

THE ROLE This is administrative, accounting and clerical work of considerable variety and complexity involving the provision of support services in an elementary school. An employee of this class directs and assists in the effective provision of administrative, secretarial, accounting, clerical and reception services in the school office. An incumbent exercises a considerable degree of independent judgment and action in dealing with the students, parents, staff, and the public on a variety of matters. After initial instructions and indoctrination, work is performed in accordance with established procedures under minimum supervision and is reviewed and evaluated in terms of conformance with established policy and procedures and effective services rendered to the students, parents, staff and the public. Unusual or difficult problems are referred to an administrator. The Elementary School Administrative Assistant exercises courtesy, discretion, diplomacy and patience in explaining and interpreting applicable rules, policies and procedures and in supplying information and assistance to students, parents, staff and the public.
Required Knowledge, Abilities And Skills
- Thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, and policies governing elementary school operations.
- Thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
- Considerable knowledge of modern office equipment, practices and procedures and of record keeping and accounting.
- Considerable knowledge of computer operation and software applications as related to the work.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and act with a considerable degree of independent judgment and action on a variety of matters.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the public and interpret and explain applicable rules, policies and procedures and supply information and assistance as required.
- Ability to operate a computer and software applications to prepare, maintain and produce a variety of materials in accordance with School District and Ministry methods and procedures.
- Ability to perform a variety of secretarial, clerical and accounting tasks accurately.
- Ability to administer basic first aid and support school medical protocols.
- Skill in the use of a computer and software applications and general office equipment.
- Superior clerical aptitude
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent plus basic first aid, supplemented by up to twelve months of related courses in keyboarding, computer operation and related software, desktop publishing, bookkeeping/accounting and commercial subjects. Two to four years experience related to the work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
This is a unionized position, and the current rate of pay is $ 3 5.69, shall be entitiled to benefits as per the Collective Agreement who have succesfully completed the prescribed period of probation. Please see Article 6.1 of the Collective Agreement for more information.
