As the Director, Utilities Delivery, you will be a key member of the Infrastructure Services Senior Leadership Team. You will lead and partner across the organization in the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of critical utility infrastructure across Calgary, including water, stormwater, wastewater, and waste and recycling systems. This includes both Linear and Process Infrastructure delivery, ensuring the seamless integration of various utility services. Primary duties include:

  • Lead a team that designs and delivers critical utility infrastructure, water, wastewater, stormwater, and waste services, that supports Calgary's growth, resilience, and sustainability for generations to come.
  • Lead transformational projects during a historic phase of infrastructure investment, with capital projects exceeding 1 billion dollars annually in the coming years. You will help shape and deliver generational projects, including:
    • Calgary's third water treatment plant - the first in over 40 years.
    • Major expansion projects at the Fish Creek, Bonnybrook, and Pine Creek wastewater treatment plants.
    • A new wastewater treatment facility in early development.
    • Large-scale water distribution projects in Northwest and Southwest Calgary, including over 20 kilometers of feedermains and 10+ new pump stations.
    • The Bearspaw south feedermain improvement project to enhance system resiliency.
  • Develop strategy and influence policy. You will sit on the Water Advisory Committee, a cross-functional executive governance group that guides utility strategy across The City.
  • Champion a culture of safety for employees, consultants, and contractors.
  • Drive innovation in project delivery, seeking efficiency, and cost savings while aligning with service needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners; including Council, the City's Chief Administration Office, industry and community leaders.
  • Foster meaningful engagement with Civic Partners, Business Improvement Areas, Community Associations, and other organizations.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering, and at least 10 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • Proven track record of at least 10 years in progressive infrastructure project development, including design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • A Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Project Risk Management Professional (PRMP), and Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications are considered assets.
  • Proven leadership in program management and governance of large-scale infrastructure initiatives.
  • Aligning with City corporate values, you will have demonstrated strategic thinking abilities, change management skills, exceptional communication skills, a focus on customer service, and the ability to create collaborative working environments which empower others to make sound decisions.

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
