POSITION OVERVIEW

The City of Maple Ridge is excited to welcome passionate and experienced leaders to our children’s programming team! If you thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy inspiring both staff and children, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact. We're looking for someone with a strong background in leading teams and delivering fun, engaging programs in both indoor and outdoor settings. Experience in organizing and facilitating a variety of activities including day camps, out trips, themed events, safety programs, early years initiatives, and licensed childcare for school-aged children is essential.

As a Recreation Leader 3, you’ll play a key role in creating memorable experiences for children by organizing and leading group activities that are active, social, nature-based, artistic, and event-focused. You’ll help shape inclusive and welcoming environments where every child feels safe and supported. In this front-line leadership role, you’ll also mentor staff and volunteers, model professionalism, and foster positive engagement throughout the program.

We’re looking for someone who is organized, adaptable, and confident in their ability to solve problems and calmly navigate challenging situations. You’ll be expected to exercise sound judgment within established policies and procedures and follow both written and verbal directions from supervisors. Experience in maintaining accurate documentation, including waivers, daily logs, and safety reports is also required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction for preschool, children, youth and adults.

Working knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work and of modern office methods and procedures.

Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction for clients with varying abilities.

Ability to participate in planning and implementing programs and activities and to provide leadership and instruction on same.

Ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with program participants, parents and external agencies.

Ability to assist in leadership of volunteers and junior level staff.

Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work, plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C.

HOURS OF WORK

This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours (Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Food Safe Certificate

  • 20+ Hours of training certification related to working with children

  • High Five Training – Principals of Healthy Child Development Certificate

The City of Maple Ridge is located on the traditional territory of the Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations north of the Fraser River between the Pitt River and Stave Falls in the shadow of the Golden Ears Mountain.
