New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About the Role

Schedule: 5x2 or 4x3, flexible work schedule options available

Duration: This position is temporary for approximately 16 months, December 2025 through March 2027.

Position Reports To: Principal, Financial Planning and Analysis

Position Overview
The Financial Planning and Analysis Specialist (FP&A Specialist) is responsible for providing cost analysis, control and forecasting activities for multiple operational departments and capital projects on site. You will work closely with technical and senior leadership to ensure timely development and consolidation of cost and revenue forecast data. You will contribute to the creation and regular updates of reports and forecasts to provide financial insight into key business decisions.

Working Conditions

  • Office based role with occasional field visits (driving/walking)

  • Minimal/occasional lifting required (typically less than 10kgs)

  • Team environment, with regularly scheduled and ad hoc meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing regular budgeting & forecasting processes, including:

  • maintenance of cost forecasting templates

  • Collaboration with department & projects personnel for updating and reviewing forecast data

  • Updating of cost forecasting models

  • Upload of forecast data into business planning system

  • Maintain operations and project forecasting models, through analysis of historical performance, identification of variances, and implementation of revised forecasting methods

  • Maintain FP&A processes, procedures, and polices and leverage systems and tools to improve workflow efficiency and eliminate sources of error

  • Assist project teams with development of project budgets by resolving project scope definition, creation of WBS/CBS and reviewing and consolidating cost estimates.

  • Monitor and control total expenditures for assigned departments or projects by analysis and interpretation of cost variances and working with operations or project personnel to mitigate deviations from budgets.

  • Generate regular (monthly, quarterly) progress and cost reports and create additional reports as requested to analyze key trends or issues.

  • Monitor project and operations activity scheduling to ensure targets are being met and variances are reforecast appropriately.

  • Develop, measure, and report key performance indicators for productivity, progress, and cost.

  • Attend project and operations meetings and discussions with key personnel and contractors, to maintain awareness of operations and project activities or changes which may impact operations or project costs.

  • Provide cost control and planning advice to the project and operations personnel, conduct monthly cost reviews.

  • Contribute to implementation of new planning software systems.

  • Any additional tasks as requested by your supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in a cost control and/or financial analysis environment, with a degree in business, economics, or similar field.

  • Strong data analytics skills; methodical and precise.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, with in-depth knowledge of Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge and experience using SAP BPC, Oracle Hyperion, or similar business planning software would be an asset.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and business acumen.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage tight deadlines and competing priorities.

  • Good judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated success in building trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders including employees, colleagues, and service providers/contractors.

Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:

  • Completion of pre-placement functional screen

  • Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license

  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada

  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $89,000 to $100,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
