Job Description Oversee a group of project managers who assume responsibility for the life of the project with regards to budget, schedule and customer satisfaction, from receipt of purchase order through final installation and acceptance at the customer’s site.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve and deliver project management group objectives and direct the project management team to deliver world class performance standards.
  • Supervise and oversee the Project Management team to complete projects efficiently according to established schedules and budgets and consistent with specified quality standards.
  • Implement the departmental policies and objectives as prescribed by the Vice President, Program Management. Recommend departmental operating budget and operate department within the budget parameters.
  • Track performance based on a defined set of project management performance metrics and recommend and/or implement corrective actions and improvements.
  • Work with other core functions to streamline methodologies, leveraging ATS internal strengths through efficient team work and simple, concise procedures targeting performance and customer expectations.
  • Apply standards defined by Vice President, Program Management for project execution, providing value through quality and performance meeting or exceeding customer expectations by enabling customers to achieve their business goals.
  • Ensure appropriate amount of customer interface occurs as a means towards improving customer satisfaction levels on an ongoing basis.
  • Recommend and implement metrics on customer satisfaction. During the life cycle of large system projects maintain overall customer satisfaction by anticipating and preventing issues before they become customer concerns, and by optimizing the use of resources.
  • Apply and monitor the standards and behaviours commensurate with the highest of professional standards to achieve ASG Cambridge Systems business objectives.
  • Foster and support a cost conscious and efficiency based performance model in line with Project Management strategy.
  • Foster and develop the project management team in a culture of teamwork and success. Utilize internal resources in line with the project management strategy of consistently delivering customer solutions on time and on budget resulting in financial performance equal to or exceeding ASG Cambridge Systems Division business objectives.
  • Support Project Managers in all project-related issues.
  • Focus on managing risks of all projects.
  • Assist Applications Engineering with preparing quotations and customer pre-order visits when required.
  • Persuade key technical personnel at the customer site that ATS is key to their success to influence subsequent buying decisions. Provide timely customer intelligence to Sales and Business Development.
  • Delegate projects to Project Managers based on the skill set and experience level of team members.
  • Lead by example.

Additional Responsilities

  • Conduct project kick off and project status meetings with the project management team.
  • Advocate and foster a team environment both within the department and throughout the division.
  • Encourage and mentor employees to ensure that the build team’s morale and efficiency is maintained at the highest level.
  • Make recommendations and refinements to project management team job descriptions, competency models and pay scales.
  • Implement comprehensive performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Produce succession candidates for the Director level roles using the ATS process.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environment compliance.
  • Hold team members accountable for health, safety and environmental compliance as part of the annual performance review process.
  • Ensure that the requirements of the health, safety and environment management system are implemented and maintained.
  • Carry out hazard assessments, inspections, and audits as required by legislative framework and/or corporate requirements.
  • Ensure that training is provided to all departmental employees are per established in the training matrix.
  • Implement appropriate corrective measures for unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
  • Ensure that appropriate equipment, materials and protective devices are provided and maintained in safe condition.
  • Provide information, instruction and supervision to employees.
  • Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employees.
  • Attend HSE Due Diligence for Management training sessions.

Qualifications Education: A post-secondary college diploma, engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical, mechanical or controls engineering. Completion of the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.

Experience:

  • Must have successfully managed $7.5 million worth of work in a minimum of 4 concurrent projects, or, simultaneously managed a minimum of 10 projects at a time while adequately managing margin, schedule and scope creep.
  • Must have a minimum of ten years’ experience leading multi-disciplined project teams, preferably in an automation or systems integration environment.
  • Must have a practical working knowledge of robots, PLC’s, instrumentation or other machine controls packages, sensors and pneumatics.
  • Preference will be given to those who possess an excellent manufacturing or process engineering background, a superior mechanical aptitude and proven trouble-shooting skills.
  • An ability to work effectively with customers according to deadlines and under pressure-filled conditions is essential.
  • In addition, must be familiar with the use of computerized word processing and computerized spreadsheets and AutoCAD or similar drawing package.
