The Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for two (2) part-time Counsellors to join our Student Services team. These roles focus on providing individual counselling to AUArts students, supporting their personal, academic, and career success.

There are two (2) permanent, part-time positions available:

• One position at 3 days per week (21 hours)
• One position at 2 days per week (14 hours)

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Counsellor delivers individual counselling within a brief therapy model, in alignment with professional codes of ethics. Working closely with students, faculty, staff, and external partners, the Counsellor plays a key role in fostering student mental health and well-being across the AUArts community.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct intake and screening appointments, developing support plans for students using multiple sources of information (e.g., screening interview, referral information, standardized questionnaires).
• Provide individual counselling for undergraduate and graduate students within a brief therapy model, addressing personal, interpersonal, social, vocational, and educational concerns.
• Respond to mental health emergencies and other crises, as appropriate
• Triage ad hoc, urgent, and regular appointments, including scheduling and coordination.
• Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with professional standards.
• Advise students on the use of additional on/off campus resources.
• Consult with other members of the AUArts community (faculty, staff, students) in support of student mental health.

Qualifications

The following qualifications have been determined to promote the likelihood of

success in the role. In alignment with the principles of inclusion, individuals with an alternative equivalent qualification may be considered.

• Graduate Degree in Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology
• Professional designation as a Registered Psychologist or Licensed Counsellor with the ability to practice in Alberta
• 3-5 years related counselling experience
• Demonstrated experience managing client files and records
• Experience with single session and brief therapy model is an asset
• Experience providing counselling services in a post-secondary setting is an asset
• Experience supporting international students is an asset
• Experience supporting indigenous students, and/or LGBTQ2S+ communities is an asset
• Experience with appointment booking and scheduling software (e.g., JaneApp) is an asset
• Knowledge of post-secondary legislation, policies, and procedures is an asset

Compensation:
The starting salary for this role is $76,235 – $91,392, pro-rated for part-time hours/FTE, and in accordance with the AUArts Faculty Association (AUAFA) Collective Agreement under Salary Schedule A for Counsellors. Benefit eligibility is determined by hours of work and applies to positions of 17.5 hours or more per week.
