Production Supervisor- Off Shift 3pm-11pm
About the role
Position Description This position will be based in Brantford, Canada. The position will be part of a team of Supervisors responsible for the site. Overall responsibility for current and future manufacturing performance (Safety, Quality, and efficiency of either Spreads, Process, Packaging and Warehouse operation) using the WCM operating framework. Direct responsibility for all Hourly Production Employees, and all hourly employees on off shifts. Additionally, the Supervisor will work on continuous improvement projects both individually and on teams.
Core Responsibilities Operational Activities
- Managing manufacturing activities during the designated shift by leading and motivating shift employees in all areas including safety, quality, efficiency and cost. Accountable for general supervisory coverage for all shifts. Includes schedule coordination, labour / crewing, safety, quality, site security, and behavioral management. Requirements for Temporary employees need to be initiated by the supervisor – to department manager and HR manager.
- Manage employee timecards, and signoff weekly to monitor employees on vacation / absenteeism
- Protection of employees’ health and safety by meeting legislative requirements, providing instruction about safety procedures and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and plant safety rules.
- Develop plans and activities to meet plant and PDP targets, which include but are not limited to 3+1 targets, functional responsibilities and other projects that are established for cost reduction, yield improvements and efficiency gains.
- Accountable for the productivity of the site during off shifts. Includes provision of some technical expertise, contacting appropriate resources for issue resolution, providing alternative duties in the event of breakdown or material shortage, monitoring general performance and behavior of employees, and adjusting crewing or call in replacements as necessary.
- Facilitate required training programs to new employees as well as refresher and recertification trainings to shift employees. (SHE, QA, Operation.)
- Monitor POKA and CORE for training requirements for their shift members.
- Monitor POKA and CORE for all QA and Safety required signoffs – per daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly.
- Manage shift employees to make sure cross training on equipment and areas in the department reflects the business needs.
- Regularly cascades/communicates Site targets and goals from the Leadership Team to shift crews, consistently and accurately.
- Controlling fixed and variable cost expenditures.
- Support quality and food safety programs including HACCP and FSCC-22000.
- Responsible for adhering to Safety programs as it relates to escalating and documenting near miss and first aid cases.
- Reduce costs due to waste and minimize impact on health, safety, and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.
- Must actively contribute to an eco-efficient environment including but not limited to disposing of materials in the appropriate waste streams.
- Supervisor must be able to facilitate morning meetings, where Performance and KPIs (OEE, ZBW, Schedule attainment, down time reason codes) are reviewed and also foster proactive planning and project management to achieve OMP projects
- Supervisor must be able to facilitate weekly Shift COMs and convey important Safety, Quality, Operational Results, Factory audit/ visits to the floor team.
- Work with department manager and CI manager to maintain all AM methodology as it relates to Centerlines of equipment and updating standards to reflect deviation.
Problem Solving
- An awareness of how to identify, prioritize and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence.
- Ability to make decisions when identifying in-process problems. Ability to deal with a variety of job assignments.
- When deviations in process occur, supervisor must be able to complete RCA (Root cause Analysis) and create new processes to cover or update the deviation to the process flow.
- Ability to manage multiple employees and personalities, to uphold a respectful and non-confrontational work environment.
Teamwork
- Must be a good team player capable of working within a highly effective team; responsible, supportive, and able communicator. Embrace for a cultural change.
- Must be able to communicate cross functionally interacting with all departments (Warehouse, QA, Maintenance, Safety, Management team)
- Take accountability of their production area and cross functionally communicate with Maintenance for any equipment’s that are not in basic condition and require PM – WO work.
- Work with the Schedule and Warehouse team to ensure completion of daily schedule.
About you! Minimum Requirements
- At least 3 years’ Supervisory experience in food manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in managing a safety culture, high speed packaging, food manufacturing, GMP, HACCP and interacting with KPIs such as OEE, ZBW, Schedule attainment.
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well within a team environment
- Leadership and conflict management
- Deliver business improvements
- Demonstrated ability to support large-scale change activities
