Temporary (up to 6 months) | Full****Time | On site

Starting at $34.45/hour

We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Technical Assistant – Gas Distribution to provide technical, financial, and administrative support to our Utility Distribution Systems team. In this role, you will help coordinate gas distribution activities, support field operations, maintain critical records and databases, assist with reporting and compliance, and provide excellent service to internal stakeholders, contractors, and the public.

What you'll do

  • Gather and analyze technical data and assist with preparing applications, and reports.
  • Support compliance with regulatory requirements related to gas operations.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and dispatch crews for line locates, maintenance, installations, service requests.
  • Disconnects/reconnects, and related gas distribution activities.
  • Receive, record, and document emergency calls and emergency locates, and notify appropriate contacts for dispatch.
  • Administer service requests and work orders, including setup, cost tracking, reconciliation, and close-out.
  • Assist with invoicing, payroll-related duties, purchase orders, expenditure tracking, and related documentation.
  • Support training administration by maintaining records and coordinating annual training requirements.
  • Respond to customer inquiries by providing information, clarifying technical requirements, and helping resolve service-related issues.
  • Help maintain standards, practice, and procedure manuals and provide backup support for operational duties as required.

What you bring

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and other office software, with the ability to quickly learn ERP and other corporate applications.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and professional approach.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, accurate calculations, and record-keeping.
  • Strong organizational skills, including prioritizing, multitasking, and scheduling under pressure.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with corporate health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • High level of confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, ArcView, and Cogsdale (CSM) is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a two (2) year diploma in Office Technology or Business Administration from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Two (2) years' experience supporting an operations group, preferably in a utility environment.
  • Experience in project management would be an asset.
  • Successful completion of required departmental training program(s) and any other training deemed necessary will be required to maintain competency in this position.
  • A management approved equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use.
