Position Summary
The Director – Automation Technology Integration & Cybersecurity provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership for automation engineering, process control, SCADA, alarm management, control philosophy development, industrial cybersecurity, and related field services. This role is responsible for developing and executing automation and cybersecurity strategies across engineering consulting, system integration, field maintenance & support, compliance, and availability monitoring services for industrial clients in sectors such as oil & gas, power, utilities, mining, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
The Director ensures safe, reliable, compliant, and secure industrial control systems (ICS/OT) while driving technical excellence, business growth, and client satisfaction across global markets.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Define and execute the automation, process control, and OT cybersecurity strategy aligned with corporate objectives and industry best practices.
Establish standards, methodologies, and governance frameworks for control systems engineering, SCADA, alarm management, and cybersecurity.
Lead technology roadmaps for digitalization, reliability, availability monitoring, and secure industrial operations.
Serve as a subject-matter authority supporting executive decision-making and client engagements.
Automation and Technology Engineering, Consulting & Project Delivery
Oversee delivery of automation and control system projects, including:
DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, and HMI systems
Control philosophy and operational narratives
Alarm rationalization (ISA‑18.2 / IEC 62682)
Control system modernization and lifecycle management
Ensure projects meet scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements.
Support complex proposals, estimates, and technical sales activities.
Industrial Cybersecurity Leadership
Lead development and implementation of OT/ICS cybersecurity programs, including:
Risk assessments and gap analyses
Network segmentation and secure architectures
Compliance with IEC 62443, NIST, and client-specific standards
Incident response planning and recovery strategies
Compliance and Availability monitoring and incident response
Integrate cybersecurity into automation engineering, field support, and operations.
Advise clients on regulatory compliance and cyber risk management.
Development and support of client’s BCP and DRP planning and testing annually.
Field Maintenance, Support & Availability Monitoring
Oversee field services for automation systems, including:
Preventive and corrective maintenance
Asset health and availability monitoring
Remote support, troubleshooting, and lifecycle optimization
Drive service reliability, client uptime, and long-term support agreements.
Ensure safe execution of field work in compliance with the global markets and client HSE requirements.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure adherence to applicable regulations, client standards, and international codes.
Champion compliance with safety, cybersecurity, alarm management, and quality frameworks.
Support audits, certifications, and continuous improvement initiatives.
People Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams including automation engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and field technicians.
Build high-performing teams through recruitment, training, performance management, and succession planning.
Foster a culture of safety, innovation, accountability, and professional excellence.
Client Relationship
Act as a senior technical interface with key clients and strategic partners.
Identify emerging technologies and services that enhance value to clients.
Maintain products and services free of non-conformance.
Strategic Vendor Partnership Development
Develop and execute a comprehensive OEM and vendor partnership strategy aligned with company growth objectives.
Identify, evaluate, and onboard new OEMs and strategic vendors to expand market reach and service capabilities.
Negotiate partnership agreements, contracts, pricing structures, and service-level commitments
Business Development & Revenue Growth
Identify new revenue streams, joint ventures, and co-development opportunities with OEM and vendor partners
Drive pipeline development through strategic alliances and channel partnerships
Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies to identify growth opportunities
Support market growth through:

Qualifications & Experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Control, Automation, Computer, or Systems Engineering (required)
Master’s degree or MBA (asset)
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada (strong asset)
Experience
15+ years in automation, process control, or industrial systems
7+ years in senior technical or leadership roles
Proven experience in:
SCADA, DCS, PLC, SIS environments
Control philosophy development and implementation
Alarm rationalization and management programs
Field maintenance and remote operations support
Industrial cybersecurity for OT/ICS systems
Experience in engineering consulting and life‑cycle service delivery
Technical Knowledge
Industrial control platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, Honeywell, ABB, Emerson)
Alarm management standards (ISA‑18.2, IEC 62682)
Control system lifecycle and modernization strategies
OT/ICS cybersecurity frameworks (IEC 62443, NIST CSF, ISO 27001 – applied to OT)
Network architectures and secure OT design
Availability, reliability, and asset performance monitoring
