Job Description The Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) department is an integral part of Trillium Health Partners. As a member of this department, the Infection Control Professionalfacilitates infection control activities and is considered an agent of change through the interpretation of standards providing best practice recommendations with the primary goal of reducing the risk of hospital acquired infections (HAI).
The successful Infection Control Professionalwill directly report to the IPAC Manager and leadership team and will be expected to cover and rotate across sites with the following responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Develops, coordinates and performs surveillance activities of significant organisms and other healthcare associated infections
- Participates in the development, communication and implementation of IPAC policies and procedures, current best practice guidelines and applicable standards
- Provides consultative advice, feedback and report to internal and external stakeholders regarding surveillance data, investigations, audits and issues of IPAC significance
- Provides ongoing IPAC education to staff, physicians, students, volunteers and patients
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and implements infection control recommendations as determined by the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
- Conducts auditing and provides education and feedback
- Develops relationships with assigned units and supports all levels of staff, leaders and professional staff with IPAC expertise
- Conducts exposure investigation and coordinates stakeholder engagement in outbreak management
- Participates in the departmental IPAC and weekend coverage rotation.
- Other duties may be assigned based on needs and as identified via risk mitigation strategy
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years experience in Infection Prevention and Control in a large and diverse acute care setting
- Current registration with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC)
- Degree in health-related discipline (e.g. nursing, laboratory, epidemiology, and other allied health) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrates strong IPAC knowledge and experience in related areas of infectious diseases, microbiology, epidemiology, statistics, asepsis; disinfection/sterilization; outbreak management, HVAC & construction
- Proficient in coaching, mentoring anddelivering adult education
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
- Critical thinking in complex and stressful situations, conflict resolution skills, high emotional intelligence
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary team environment
- Able to effectively lead and provide support to clinical & non-clinical teams to manage complex and challenging situations
- Self-directed, well-organized and detail-oriented
- Proficiency in the use of computer databases, spreadsheets and literature search, familiarity with EPIC HIS is an asset
