Milk River Ridge is situated in the town of Milk River, Alberta. Milk River has a population of approximately 890 people but draws students from the rural communities surrounding it. Our student population of 200 from Early Learning to Grade 12 with approximately 23 staff.
Regular Educational Assistant- Approximately 6.5 hours a week- Wednesdays
Assignment- Wednesday 8:15 a.m. – 3:40 p.m.

We are committed to supporting early learners through collaborative teamwork and responsive, student-centered practices. Milk River Ridge School is seeking a caring, flexible, and student‑focused Early Learning Educational Assistant (EA) to support children in early learning settings. The EA works under the direction of the classroom teacher and school administration to support student learning, development, and well‑being in a safe, inclusive, and play‑based environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support early learning students individually and in small groups during instructional and play‑based activities.
- Assist students with self‑regulation, routines, transitions, and social‑emotional development.
- Support students with personal care needs (e.g., toileting, dressing, hygiene) respectfully and safely.
- Assist with preparation, organization, and cleanup of classroom materials and learning spaces.
- Reinforce learning goals as directed by the teacher, including language, numeracy, and social skills.
- Support inclusive practices and implementation of Individual Program Plans as directed.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and designated supervision times.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow Horizon School Division policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience working with young children in a school or early learning setting.
- Knowledge of child development and play‑based learning approaches.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to be flexible, patient, and responsive in a busy learning environment.
- Physically able to support young children (lifting, bending, floor‑level work).
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.

An Educational Assistant in Horizon School Division:
- Encourages students to develop and maintain positive interaction.
- Maintains confidentiality and a patient, supportive and enthusiastic commitment to students.
- As required, provides personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc. ensuring that student dignity is maintained. Attends to physical needs including lifting, positioning, and range of motion programs as identified by appropriate personnel.
- Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students, ensuring student equipment is sanitized and put away, retrieving students who attempt to leave their learning environment, calming and/or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviours; supervising and assisting students who utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e., scissors, cooking utensils, etc.).
- Maintains collegial relationships with the students' learning team.

The division is divided into 14 Subdivisions for purposes of representation on the Board of Education.
